degree symbols

Does anyone know how to insert the little degree symbol ie in a cookbook?
I’ve looked at Words’ Insert- Symbols menus but I’m not seeing it. Then again, my eyes are blurry from staring at little symbols.

Hold down the Alt key and type 248 on your numeric keypad on the right of the keyboard (you’ll probably need to press the NumLock key before you start). You’ll then get the °

i don’t have a numeric keypad on my laptop.
is there a way to do it without a right-side numeric keypad?
