Hi-res jpegs from PS look pixelated...

I’ve designed several grid layouts for my 10×13 in PS CS3 and saved them as hi-res jpegs. When I import them into BookSmart, they look very lo-res and pixelated.

Is this just a glitch and images will print as they’re seen in Photoshop? Or is there a different issue? All templates are made to Blurb specs at 300 dpi and hi-res photos are being used in layouts. They look absolutely prestine in Photoshop…not so much in BookSmart.

Hello Brad,

That sounds like a very ambitious project and I can’t wait to see it in the bookstore!

Regarding the images, I would examine the actual size of the image and see if they exceed the size of the image container. If images are larger than the image container and above 300DPI then BookSmart will resample them at a lower rate till they are 300DPI.

The easiest way to look at that is looking a the pixel measurements of both the image and the container which is found by hovering your mouse over a contains, at which point a tooltip appears.

Hope that helps.

I get exactly the same thing…..in Booksmart, a jpeg image saved at 300dpi at 13×11 inches ( at jpg quality 10 ) for a 13×11 book looks very pixelated in the edit and preview window . The image looks fine in Photoshop CS2 or CS3 on my Mac. Not all images look this way….but some do. I think this is a software issue with Booksmart. We’ll see how they print, I guess.
The proof is in the pudding….so to speak.

When I put my images in the bin for use, they look fine in the thumbnails, but once I drag them onto a page, it’s like one of the colour channels dissapears (maybe green).  I assume that this is just the software proxy view, and that the nice high-res jpegs I’m using will all print in full colour like they should.  If I am wrong, and it is a software issue on Blurbs end, do I get reprinting done for free?

All images where created to container pixel size at 300 dpi…

Hoping it’s just a software glitch and will print original file quality.

Your book preview looks very nice! I’m also gonna make one with wide photos that cover 2 pages, could you, when you receive your book, confirm if the photos are nicely aligned over the 2 pages?

Please see this post which discusses a potential bug in presenting jogs with text. The book should print fine if there is no resolution warning:

OK, I just received the book and it looks great!
The on-screen pixelation issue is apparently just a Booksmart screen rendering issue….NOT a
repro issue!

I have the same issue and am panicking now I’ve spent hours on photoshopped pages. Is this confirmation that this is a booksmart thing and will not affect the final printing? If I get my book back and it looks rubbish am I entitled to a reprint? thx
