BookSmart

Won't open my book

I have spent HOURS working on a book, a very special book. It is supposed to be our Adoption Profile book to try to adopt a baby. AFter spending majority of my weekend on it, all of the sudden while working on it, it crashed and then when I try to reopen it, I get the error message, “BookSmart encountered a technical glitch an dneeds to close now. Sorry about that. IN most instances your book has been saved. Help us improve BookSmart by reporting this error.” I submitted the error report with a description and then I submitted a technical help request to your supoprt team. I haven’t heard back from anyone, via email or otherwise. I called your office number and NO ONE answers the phone…all voice mails. To say I’m frustrated is an understatment. What do you have to do to get some help? I sincerely hope and pray my book is still there. Thanks for your help.
Jenny

Hi Jenny,

Sorry to hear about that. Customer Support will work to recover your files. Please note that we don’t have phone support, but that customer service answers messages as promptly as possible (M-F). Looks like they responded to your message a few minutes ago.

Best regards and thank you for hanging in there,
Jeremy

me too, Jenny… I sold blurb to an important client who is very excited about the books I’m building for them—photographed a dozen homes for this book, a lot of work has gone into this, and now the software goes belly up.

I don’t know who was behind this software release, but they really screwed up.

This just happened to me too. I have spent more than 20 hours on this book and now I have no idea what to do. Did anyone ever get back to any of you? Did you do anything to get your books back? Thanks

Hey everyone. We apologize for this bug. In case you haven’t read one of the other threads, I’ll post our response again here:

There is a rather simple workaround that eliminates a bug. If anyone else has used the "save as" feature and then can’t open their book anymore, the following may solve the issue (and won’t harm your projects in case your technical issue is different):

Go to My Documents>BookSmartData>YourBookFolder (find the actual folder for your book project, which should have the same name as your book).

Inside the folder for your book should be a .jpg or .png file. Drag it to your desktop.

Then, please open BookSmart and try to open your book again. This should work now, as the bug was in that thumbnail of your cover image…

Please note we’re hard at work on a patch to remedy this issue.

Best regards and thanks for your patience,
Jeremy

Howdy,

Also, please note v1.9.4 was just released as a patch for this crash. Please upgrade, and if the problem persists, please contact customer support.

Best regards and thank you for hanging in there,
Jeremy
