BookSmart

WISHLIST for tweaks for 1.9.4 Beta

I’m very happy with Booksmart, but there are tweaks that I think need to be made.

Figure out the constant reseting of zoom levels- No, i’m not talking about the Auto-Zoom for Text editing. I find I am constantly changing zoom levels. I prefer to see the whole page at a time. Yet, I find Booksmart constantly changes the zoom. The program should remember the zoom settings and placement of the book within the window and go back to that. If needed, just give a memu option, "Remember window position and zoom". AOL did it that way for a decade now.  The zoom ALWAYS resetsto some obscure default after you come out of PREVIEW back to EDIT mode.

Seperate CROP/NO-CROP  from ALIGNMENT.  They have nothing to do with eachother in the first place and people are going to have errors cause you can’t reliable position photos except by one of the four buttons. The frustratoin comes from the ALIGNMENT choices also ZOOM OUT/UN-CROP.  There are time I just want to align the picture—with the particular ZOOM i’ve found against a certain edge. Just give me those edge alignments (top, bottom, left, right). Have a CROP or FULL SIZE button. Don’t budle them in restrictive ways. During PREVIEWs i’m spotting little borders because my photo isn’t lined up with an edge and exposing bacground where I never meant to.

Related to this, but it would be unnecessary if you did the above is providing the use of the arrow keys on the keyboard to slide a selected image in a specific direction. This would also allow me to tweak placements with messing up edges.

PAGE ZOOM BUTTON – full page visible and centered. I’m constantly draging the slider to find a full page veiw. Can’t you just shorthand this for us into a button on the bottom (with the other page view layouts).

PAGE UP/PAGE DOWN keys – to flip through pages… isn’t that kind of intuitive. I’m still surprised this basic keystroke wasn’t integrated.

TEXT FORMATTING (UGH!)Some better way of handling text formatting is really needed. A style sheet where I can right click on a text box and set a style for all the text in that box would be great. I started a book with a white background and switched to black—and turning all the backgrounds to black is easy. Changing all the text to white is difficult. Especially since black text on black background is now invisible. I’m finding text formatting to be the most labor intensive, with the most number of errors and inconsistencies. My next book I will do all the photos and design first then make text the last thing I do.
