BookSmart

Problem with uploading

Hi everyone!

I am new to Blurb and am trying to upload my first book but each time I get a message saying “Sample size must be <= 8” .

I have checked and all my pictures are the accepted size and resolution so I don’t understand. Has anyone else had this message?

Thanks very much.

Hello Char-ley,

What the “Sample size must be <= 8” message is referring to is the color-bit depth of your images. This means that one or more of your images is above the threshold of 8-bit per color channel. Most likely this is due to a png file which can have up to 16-bits per color channel.

To fix this you will need to review the images you have placed in your book, to see which image is not meeting this threshold.

Hope that helps.

Thanks very much Ben!

There were some 16 bit png files in the book which I will now change before uploading.

Many thanks.

I have checked my files and they are all jpegs yet I keep getting the same message as above.
It stops after page 6 when the message appears.
Help! I really want to publish this book!

Hello Mimi and jildr,

Mimi, even though your images may be jpegs, they may be (most likely be) 16-bit jpegs which are incompatible with BookSmart, double check the color-depth settings. This can be done in preview on a Mac or in Paint on a PC. Almost any Adobe product can do it, and it will be easier.

jildr, the easiest way to review the files the original files from (i.e. iPhoto library, or My Pictures), and examine them with your favorite photo editing program as mentioned above.

Hope that helps.
