Updating images in booksmart 1.9.5

Hi there,

After laying out my book and then getting a test print done of 20 pages, I’ve made adjustments to my photographs and overwrote my previous ones. I assumed that booksmart would simply reload these updated images, but it seems as if when I look at the images that the latest changes haven’t been updated. Furthermore, if I import the same image again, I get two identically named images, existing in the photo bar, one with the old CC, and one with the new.

Any explaination for what’s happening and how I can get my images updated?

Thanks!

Updating photos is not one of BookSmart’s strengths, as you have found! When you import a photo BookSmart literally does that, it does not operate by constantly referring to where the original photo is stored.

What you need to do is to delete the original version of the photo from within BookSmart then import te new version, then re-insert that new version into the appropriate page.

If you do not delete the original you will get a copy, as you have found, that then needs inserting in the appropriate page, leaving you with an unused photo in the BookSmart imported list. That does no harm, just uses up disks spave and can be the cause of confusion whrn you come back in a few weeks to make further changes. The unused photos will not be uploaded to the Blurb server when you come to publish your book, so there is no overhead at that stage.

With the latest version of BookSmart you can now drag and drop a photo from your  computer files directly into the relevent page, it then does the import for you, which saves one step. But you really ought to delete the old version first.
