Do you have to buy a copy of a book before it is avaiable in the store?

Being that I am currently broke I can’t really afford to buy books that I create without first selling a few. I uploaded one so far and it seemed that I couldn’t get anything done until I ordered it, I’m glad I got it and would eventually buy anything I created but I have at least 3 more in the works and I can’t get them all out there if I have to buy each one upon listing. Does anyone have any ideas on this?

Hi Kevin;

The answer to your question is YES

A book cannot be added to the public bookstore until there has been an initial purchase…

Whilst I understand your frustration you must also understand that Blurb can’t run the risk of having their resources overloaded with non-profitable books chewing up their server space…

You get the software for free, and a bookstore for free – the least you can do is buy just one copy – if only for your own archives!

Tease, tease, tease, there was something about being able to upload PDF files so we could design on our own software any word on that?

Hi Kevin,

Direct pdf support is not coming soon, unfortunately. What does work, however, is taking your 300dpi PDF, rasterizing it in Photoshop at 300dpi (with anti-aliasing checked) in RGB color, and saving as a PNG file. While this step is obviously not as easy as simply sending a pdf, I can tell you it results in clean text and overall print quality equivalent to printing from pdfs.

As for the previous tease regarding Blurb’s bookstore policies, you really should see a key improvement coming before you know it.

Cheers,
Jeremy
