How do I make my book like this one?

I’m a newbie….trying to make a family cookbook. I searched all the books in the bookstore and love the format of YUM . I like the banding (sideways title)on the pages and the background. Can anyone give me some assistance? I just downloaded the program and do not see a choice to do this. I even like the fine border on each page.  Maybe I’m missing something.  I hope this was not all done on photoshop first. I’m trying to avoid doing that….
