Truetype fonts not appearing in booksmart 1.97

Hi… I’m using 1.97 and tried to use some new fonts that just installed on the PC and they are not appearing in my drop down list. There is a blank line where the font name should be and when I try to use it, my text disappears on screen. Other truetype fonts that I installed at the same time work fine….

The fonts are all TrueType fonts and do work with all my other XP software.

Any advice… rebooting/restarting has not helped. Thx!

Hi Jingothecat,

TrueType fonts that use PostScript outlining may not appear on your list of fonts in BookSmart on XP. Macs don’t seem to have that issue (Myriad Pro, for instance, works fine on BookSmart in Mac OS, but not on XP).

I’d like to learn more about this issue, however. Maybe we could isolate the problem so we can address it in a future edition of BookSmart. If you’d like to pursue this, and I encourage you to do so, please contact Customer Support and ask them to escalate the ticket to the technical support specialist.

Thx Jeremy.. interesting and unfortunate because now I’ll need to hunt/peck and guess as to which fonts will work unless I can tell in my font browser which ones use postcript outlining.

I submitted a tech ticket for the issue so we can all work together to resolve it if possible. Thx again for the advice adn info. – Andy.

Hi all.. bringing back an OLD topic because I still have fonts not being found in Booksmart even though they are loaded and installed on my system. this is using the latest version of Booksmart 2.6 – here’s an example font that is installed correctly but doesn’t appear in the software – it is Truetype: http://simplythebest.net/fonts/fonts/edmunds.html

Is the PostScript outlining issue still a problem on the PC version of the software?

It’s still an issue for PCs, even in this version. I know I’ve seen this mentioned as a complaint in other threads, and the answer from Booksmart is that it shouldn’t be a problem because "most" of your fonts will appear. But I am in the same boat you are – I would say at least 1/3 of my fonts are PostScript fonts and while they do not show up in BookSmart. This is something that SHOULD BE FIXED ALREADY! PLEASE in the next version. If PostScript works for Macs, why is it such a technical problem for them to work with PCs?

Hi Jingothecat,

I’ve just installed the Edmunds font on my PC and was able to use it in BookSmart (version 2.6). You may want to contact Customer Support to see if there is something specific about your system that is preventing it from being displayed.
