Locked Can't upload my book

Hey, after spending hours on my book, I’m ready to upload it. Time is short because I’d like to have it at my wedding in 3 weeks. It’s a 400 pg book from my year long trip around the world. I know it’s big and I expected it to take a long time but i’ve been getting a ‘Connection has timed out’ error. It asked if I’d like to continue uploading but when I click on ‘Continue’ nothing happens!

Any ideas what I can do?
Thanks so much for the help!

Hello Bryan,

Thanks for participating in the forums. This issue would best be solved by entering a Customer Support Form, and someone from Blurb will be in contact with you in one business day.

I have had the same issue as you and have read quite a few messages from other customers having this issue. I have contacted customer support and they have not yet suggested anything that actually works….
I have a job interview and will not be able to present a book I have been working on for over 3 months and have been attempting to upload with customer support for 3 WEEKS!!!!!

I am seriously considering other printing companies and I don’t think I’ll be using Blurb in the future…

I’m having the same problems uploading via Booksmart over the past 2 weeks and have had a few suggestions from Blurb email support (which has been relatively quick – thank you), as well as following the FAQs, but nothing has worked. I’ve probably tried uploading now over a dozen times.

I’ve uninstalled and reinstalled Booksmart a couple of times, turned off firewall and antivirus software. I even opened a new account in the hope that may magically solve the issue. I usually have no problem uploading large files from my computer so I’m really stumped on this one.

Has anyone had problems uploading and then managed to solve them? what worked? Any "out of the box" solutions to suggest?

I just went thru trying to upload a book 5 times yesterday, 120 pages and it almost makes it thru the whole thing and then I get the same messages as you people.  I have talked to my internet provider and have had no interuptions of service, I have circumvented my wireless by hooking my laptop up directly to my internet modem, I have talked to my internet security provider – they see no problem, and I have backed up my book to an external hard drive then loaded it from there on to a different laptop and then tried to upload it from the second laptop and it still loads all my photos and pages but then stops uploading when it is almost done uploading my 323 mb file.  So I am not having problems connecting with Blurb or starting the upload – just finishing.  It seems to me it must be a problem with their server cutting out.  I did send off a report to Blurb but haven’t heard back.

The only thing I haven’t tried is disabling my internet security software – but I don’t see why that would be an issue if I almost get done uploading and then it stops.   Seems to me if my problem was with my security software I would have a problem uploading from the start?  Anyone have any thoughts on this?

I’ve had a failed upload 3 times… but 4th time lucky. I’m sharing my experience in case it helps others. I’m uploading from a laptop and the first 3 times I left it uploading and went away from the computer and did something else only to come back and find it failed – at a different upload page each time.

4th time lucky and this time I sit and watch it upload while  using the computer, e.g. browsing the web etc. This time the upload was fine. I can only imagine the failure on the first 3 attempts was due to the laptop entering a lower power state while I was away from it

If you’re having problems uploading from a laptop then you might want to stay and watch the upload in case that is the issue!

I am thinking that it is just as the previous person has mentioned that after so long your computer goes into a low power state.  I just changed my settings on my computer to never sleep and hopefully this will not interrupt my upload.  And also, I do believe inactivity is another consideration.  It could be your internet times out after so long of your computers inactivity.  Not sure, but will be sticking around my computer to make sure it uploads this time.  The 3rd time around after watching for an hour twice and then I walk away and it times out.  Very frustrating!  But we will get it to work somehome, as I love Blurb Books and I always do large books and no one else can beat the price of large book compared to Blurb and the quality is just perfectly fine to me!  Good luck to everyone else, too!

Glad to know I’m not on my own, but does anyone have a solution to the uploading problem? Uploading smaller books isn’t a problem, so it’s nothing to do with firewalls that I can see. I set my computer to full power, no low power mode, no sleep mode, but my large book is taking 8 hours to upload, am I supposed to watch it? For 8 hours? But why, nothing changes by watching it, it just takes a long time because it’s a large file. It keeps going, says it’s done, you go to Blurb and there’s no new book! Frankly I could cry, so much work, so many recommendations to others about Blurb, so much trust that it works. Looking for alternatives. Is it not possible to save to a disk and send it?!

Hi cari4cariad,

Sorry to hear you are having trouble uploading. It may help if you contacted support for more assistance. As this thread is just about 5 years old I am going to lock it from further posting. Feel free to start a new thread about something else.
