BookSmart

Is anone else Having 1.9 crashing issues with BIG book files

1.9 is crashing on me every time I try to work on a book (one that used to suffer the 1.8 hang-up problem).

As soon as I try to work on the book – BookSmart freezes, burns CPU cycle s for a few minutes and them crashes.  (This is on a PC – failry new and clean build, running XP)

The book is 200+ pages in length and has many hi-res images….in total the book folder is about 3.4G in size.

Does anyone else out there have a book this size that is working??

Thanks

Ken

Not sure about the version # of BookSmart.

I am a relatively new user and been extremely impressed by Blurb. I have made 2 books in a month and was working on the third and now the program has crashed so bad, my PC locks up as soon as I click on the program…. I havent had problems with my Win-xp lately at all….

Last night I persevered – and deleted itmes one at a time from the book that was causing problems….eventually BookSmart stopped crashing on me.

Today – although I can open other books – this one file (which was working fine last night ) causes BookSmart to crash without even getting as far as openinbg the book!!!

I had a deadline for this book (it’s for a charity) and I accpet now that I have missed that.  I’ve been through so much hassle withy this that I’m left feeling numb rather than annoyed!

The BIG TEST for me now is one for Blurb’s tech and customer support.  If they can find a way to help me I’ll be a customer for life!!!!

Watch this space.

Hello Ken and Caligold,

Ken, the issue you are describing sounds like a new one from the one you wrote in about originally which I have been working on.

If you can submit another email with the details about the issue you are experiencing and perhaps some info about the images or pages you deleted this will go a long way to speeding up the solution for this problem. As I recall our time zones are quite different so sooner the better. Please address your email to Ben, so the team can get it to me sooner.

Caligold, It sounds like you might not have upgraded to the new version of BookSmart 1.9.0.20357 which I think should take care of your problem. The symptoms you are describing sounds reminiscent of a software bug some users experienced in BookSmart 1.8.

If BookSmart 1.9 doesn’t fix this please send in a Customer Support form and someone from Blurb will be in contact with you in one business day.

I was advised to install 1.9 and it crashes on me when the previous version didn’t, add to that the printing woes with the new version, its lack of backwards compatability and it is sending me around the bend!

Same thing is happening to me. I have just installed version 1.9 and the programme has started freezing (using my whole CPU capacity and slowing my whole machine down) and crashing out of the programme. Very fustrating as I am compiling a faily large book with lots of text and pictures. The previous version never crashed on me. I am sad to learn that there is no backwards compatability.

I just updated today and it freezes up on me when I try to open a book I already started. I wish they would give an option to download a previous version. Anyone know of where I can get the 1.8 version?

I am similarly frustrated with Booksmart. I have just installed version 1.9 and it also started freezing on me, It takes me about 5 minutes to just open my project and I have just completed 6 of 200 pages. I have only uploaded 5 pictures and have kept to the recommended size, now the computer freezes and takes up most of my CPU capacity.  I have a new computer with  a windows vista.  I also have a deadline which I will probably will now miss. Is there any help out there??

I hope you all filled out and sent in a Customer Support Form so this can be fixed. Adding woes to the thread doesn’t help.

1.9 crashes on me just about every time I import a picture from my computer.  The only way I can work with pictures is to upload them to picasa, then download them into the computer.  Needless to say this is a bit of a pain.

Hi folks,

Our lead tech support rep, and usual forum moderator, Ben, asked me to fill in for him today on the forums specifically so he could analyze some of these types of problems. Because some of you may be experiencing slightly different issues than other users in the same forum thread are experiencing, sending us a tech support inquiry is the best way to get a tailored answer. Also, we’ll be able to reach you when we have any updates.

Best regards and thank you for your patience,
