PDF to Book InDesign size issueIt took me HOURS to find this solution – so perhaps this can save others…. I used the Blurb templates and changed nothing but still got the “wrong size error” for both my pages and cover. I went into export PDF → Bleeds and Marks → Bleed & Slugs → and enabled the option to “Use Document Bleed Settings.” This option was NOT initially enabled on the Blurb template. This is the only change I made and it loaded fine immediately after making this one adjustment. I wonder if this is something that Blurb saved in their template’s export settings but my version of InDesign (CS4) scrubbed, or if this is something that needs to be turned on manually by everyone? It really is confusing because Blurb says repeatedly to make NO changes to the template. It’s a shame because otherwise I think their templates are super easy to work with. Hope this helps others as it looks like many are having this problem—as far back as 2009.

Hello augustmoon, I’m sorry to hear that you had a frustrating time creating properly dimensioned PDF’s for us. Though your issue has been raised on the Forums before, it is a very small percentage of users who have encountered this problem. We receive thousands of successul uploads per week. I’m glad to hear that you were able to figure out the problem. The reason you encountered this issue stems from one of two possibilities. The first possibility is that you did not use the specific Blurb PDF Export Preset, and instead used the Adobe PDF/X-3 Export Preset. The other possibility is that you made changes to the Blurb PDF Export Preset. The specific Blurb PDF Export Preset has Include Document Bleeds enabled, unless a user makes a change to the Preset. The Adobe PDF/X-3 Export Preset does not have this option enabled which prevents the proper dimensioned PDF to be created. The new InDesign Plug-in automatically installs the Blurb PDF Export Preset, so it is ready for use without ANY modification. Just export your final templates created from the Blurb InDesign Plug-in with the Blurb PDF Export Preset and you will have no trouble at all. Again, I am sorry that you encountered some frustration with our workflow, but I wanted to be sure not to confuse other users, as the workflow works perfectly for the vast majority of users. Install the Blurb InDesign Plug-in, create your templates, work your magic of design, and simply export the InDesign documents with the BLURB PDF EXPORT PRESET (without making any changes), and you’ll have a successful upload. I recommend watching this short 5 minute video for a complete overview of how it all works. Thanks!

I had the same problem and thank YOU! for resolving this for me. Thanks to YOU and NOT to the Blurb support team who repeatedly told me that I was doing something wrong. | |
