PDF to Book

pdf to book indesign plugin making book at 6.875 inches instead of 7 inches?

Hi, just as the title suggests, when creating a small square book using the indesign plugin, the image size to the red bleed line creates a space that is 6.875 x 6.875and not 7 × 7 inches. Since I am creating tiff files in photoshop to bring into indesign at exactly the size of the printed book, I would really like to not have to scale them down since that will potentially make graphics less crisp. I just want to make sure I get this right before beginning the project. Thanks!

Hi mixmasterdsr,

Create your full page TIFF files in Photoshop at 6.875" x 6.875", and then create picture boxes in your InDesign document that go from the binding edge all the way out to the Bleed line of all three outside edges of the template. These boxes will also be 6.875" x 6.875". Place the images into InDesign and they will import at exactly 100% of your TIFFs. Please note that your images will bleed, therefore 0.125" on the three outside edges will be trimmed off, so keep any imprtant artwork away from the edges.

Thanks!

I guess I’m confused because the physical book size is 7 inches. The picture boxes don’t seem necessary because if I create my images in photoshop at 6.875 and bring them in, they will stay that size and go to the bleed line, as that’s what the template seems to be set up to do. But again my confusion is around the book size being advertised at 7 inches when it seems that based on the template the "final size" / bleed line, is really 6.875.

Sorry for the confusion about dimensions.
Maybe this page will explain the dimensions better.
You may construct your book with InDesign many ways, so indeed, use any workflow you feel comfortable with, and place your images directly on the individual pages.

Thanks!
