PDF to Book

Blurb Book Creator and "U.S. Web Coated (SWOP) v2" profile.

I have noticed that, when i create an Indesign document with “Blurb Book Creator”, the document created has “Preserve numbers (ignore linked profiles)” as the policy, and “U.S. Web coated (SWOP) V2” as profile (even when Blurb Profile is selected in my colour settings), I know that beacause when I go to “Convert to profile” it says “U.S. Web coated (SWOP) V2” in “Source Space”. Should be like that? Should not use Blurb profile instead of U.S. Web coated? When I select Blurb profile in my “Colour settings” and then I create a document without the “Blurb Book Creator” (File, New, Document) Indesign creates a document that uses “Blurb_icc_profile”, should not be the same when I use de Blurb Book Creator? My workflow: I convert my images to blurb’s profile in photoshop, then i open Indesign and create a new document using the “Blurb Book Creator” and place the CYMK images. Will be any
problem because of the U.S Web Coated Profile? There will be any changes in the images? Should I use “convert to profile” in Indesign to select Blurb profile instead of U.s Web Coated? One last question, I asume when I upload the book to the web page using Blurb Book Creator it uses the “Blur_pdf_export” preset, right? Thanks in advance and sorry for my poor english.

Hello,

We have chosen to leave the InDesign document profile as “U.S. Web coated (SWOP) V2” because most of our users are not employing the Blurb ICC Profile in their workflows, and leaving it as U.S. Web Coated (the default for most users) is the best solution for users not using our color profile.

If you are using the Blurb ICC Profile in your workflow, simply convert the document profile to the Blurb Profile when prompted. The Blurb ICC Profile is optimized for our workflow, but the default U.S. Web Coated profile is similar enough for most users, and will print fine.

The new Blurb Book Creator does use the Blurb PDF Export Preset, just as it always has. The only difference is that it exports the PDF files in the background automatically.

Thanks!
Joe

Ok Joe, thanks for your quick answer.

I have three albums in progress, I have created them with the Blurb Book Creator so they have “U.S. Web coated…” as profile, if I use “Convert to profile” (inside Indesign) and chose convert to the Blurb profile, will images suffer a quality degradation? Will be a conversion between “U.s. Web Coated” and “blurb” profiles on the images placed or indesign doesn’t make any conversion when Images with the blurb cymk profile are placed in a document created with the “U.S. Web Coated…” profile? I think the correct way is to create the template with the Blurb Book Creator and inmediatly convert the document to the blurb profile, and only then, add the images, isn’t that right? Will there be any problem with those three albums If I convert the documents with the images already added? I have ordered two albums already (with my client profile) and I’m worried for the quality of the resultant images due to the process I follow, because in that process, as I said above, I converted the document to the Blurb Profile (Create document with Blurb Book Creator/Add images with the Cymk profile/Noticed the mismatched beetween profiles/Convert to profile: “Blurb ICC Profile” (inside Indesign).

One more question, I have noticed a little difference between the documents created with the “Blur book creator” and the Specs we get on the web with the Specs Calculator, If I create a document for standrad landscape (for example) with the Blurb Book Creator and then the same one using the measures gived to me by the calculator there are differences from 0,5 pt to 1 pt (in the document width or in the spine width usually) between the results, can it be a problem or the difference (less than one millimeter) is to small to be noticed?

Thanks again for your time, looking forward for your response.
