Tips and Tricks

my book is too large (16.1!) what now?

This is my 4th book via blurb – 2 books were smaller so I didn’t have a problem. Last year, the book was too big to upload via Internet and the customer service rep asked me to burn the book on a DVD and mail it to him.  He then uploaded it in-house.  This year, my book is large again (396 pages, large square, 16.1) and I am having the same problem.  However, the rep I am speaking with now told me there is not much I can do except change sizing on all of the pictures.  Obviously, I need a quicker solution.  Any ideas, thoughts?

a) Can I use a different website/company to print my book?

b) Can I split up this book into 2-3 different books?

It is a picture book of our family (a yearly tradition).  So it would be only 1 book.  Since everyone here understands the amount of work (months) this takes, I am in tears from frustation.  Any help would be tremendously appreciated.

Thank you!!!

Hi:

For your first question, I don’t think any other companies would print your Blurb file since it was produced using Blurb’s proprietary software.

For your second question…..YES, you can easily split your book into two or three books. I assume you’re using Booksmart?

With the book open, go to the menu line at the top of the page and click on <file> then click on <duplicate book> This will create a duplicate copy of your book; and it may take a while if your book is particularly large.

Then on one copy, delete the last 196 pages. This will give you a book with pages 1 – 200.
Then on the second copy, delete the first 200 pages. This will give a book with pages 201 – 396.

You can then upload both books to Blurb.
