Cleaning Book Jacket

Got my first book a couple days ago and I’m 1000x pleased. Noticed the black jacket cover gets smudgy with fingerprints. Anyone know a way to clean it off so it looks like it did when I first got it?

Please see my first two replies.

Please DO not post triple postings, just because. See the note I replied in 2nd of multiple posting.

Jeff,

You can ignore Brian, he only thinks he runs the forums.  My experience with the dust jackets is that they do pick up finger prints, but that they can be easily wiped off with a soft, clean, cotton, dish towel.  I believe the covers are laminated with a glossy  material that makes them more durable than plain paper.  But, like any glossy finish use will dull the gloss and signs of that use are almost impossible to stop … unless, of course, you take Brian’s advice and only handle them with white cotton gloves.

Yonosey,

I was only helping the orginal poster. He might not realize that multiple posting ON the same topic create some challenge or some kind of circles in three part of Main Forums.

I am trying to be very helpful and trying to make forum disccusion a smooth place to go and find the information as fastest way to help. I am sorry to see that your thinking differently.

Have you check this, here?

This one is under “Tips and Tricks” Same topic. 1st topic. But there is other forum discussion under THE SAME topic and same poster. That create some confusion for other participants to participate and offer tips or help for that matter.

http://forums.blurb.com/forums/4/topics/1375

Other topic UNDER in “TIps and Tricks” under 2nd same topic “Cleaning Book Jacket”. Other confusion.

All in all, yonosey, you are NOT making any sense and not very helpful and you probably don’t understand the efficiency and productivity means of helping other people. It is just that original poster didn’t realize that multiple postings on same topic create some problem by going back and forth. If some other participant offer a good tip in “Topic A”, but then original poster posted other forum discussion. IN this case, he posted two same topics in two SEPARATE sections “Book Design and Imaging” AND “Tips and Tricks”.

It would be nice he post ONLY once, twice or multiple postings are useless and not helpful.

I will NOT participate or continue debate this with you, especially with you, yonosey. If you think you are better off, you are WRONG!

As for the second link I was referring to original poster, also in THIS thread of topic discussion in TIps and Tricks section of Blurb Forum.

Now, I will NOT participate in this thread of discussion. That is to say, I am trying to help the original poster, not for yonosey.

Have a good one, yonosey. :D (SMILE)

I just received my beautiful book and I can’t tell you how happy I am. Also its going to be a gift to my friends, so I have to make sure there are no fingertips on the black jacket. So I used this pre-moistened lens tissue and it worked magic. No fingertips or whatsoever . My book became a NEW_NEVERBEINGTOUCHED_ BOOK again! Good luck and keep making books! :)

Brain,

I agree with you on the multiple postings of the same question. I always look forward to your answers, so please keep posting.

OK, so this is a really late reply. I’m a newbie and was just browsing the forums…

Way back when I used to work in a bookstore we used to clean glossy dust covers with ‘Mr Sheen’. Not sure if you have it in the states, but you can google it for more information. It’s actually a furniture polish, but it removes prints and left over glue from sale stickers etc with no problems, and no harm to the dust jacket.

One disclaimer – I’m assuming that the blurb dust covers are a standard glossy dust jacket, I’ve never actually seen a Blurb published book.

( And apologies if mentioning the brand violates any posting rules – it’s the only one we used, and I don’t know the active ingredients so I can’t make a generic recommendation. Simply saying ‘use furniture polish’ would probably result in many ruined books ! )
