isbn and barcode

I am a Canadian and I got my free isbn number from Library and Archives Canada but I was told I need to buy a barcode from a private company. I haven’t bought the bar code yet but found a company that sells them. Does anyone know how to drop the barcode and isbn together on the back cover?  Is it true that I can’t sell the book in bookstores or amazon without the bar code?

When you buy the bar code, you will give the ISBN number, and it will become a part of the bar code.  I understand that Amazon, com won’t sell your book without an ISBN number,

If you are going to produce ISBN barcodes regularly it may pay you to use one of the shareware packages that will create them for you. They cost from $40 up . Do a search for ISBN barcode converter.

There is a web site out there which will generate a bar code for you when you type in your ISBN…...for free. Try searching Bookland EAM in google- or type in ISBN number to bar code, or some such and you’ll run across the Bookland site. I just did it a couple of days ago. ....ISBN number for free from the Canadian government and then free bar code and then photoshopped it on the back of my book….Keith

It would be cool if there are any Blurb authors out there that have used Amazon to sell their books. I wonder what their experiences were…...(maybe I missed such comments in another forum)

No need to buy a bar code – there are several web sites that will produce them in seconds for free:

Try:
http://www.milk.com/barcode/

Or:
http://www.tux.org/~milgram/bookland/
