Shipping cost a deal breaker!

I was very anxious to use Blurb services and created a book in a fashion that suited my needed. The cost was very reasonable. Then came the shipping cost! I live in Canada and the shipping cost almost equalled the cost of the book. I redid the book using Aperture and shipped my order off to Apple. Their cost for he book was about 5% more than Blurb’s but the shipping fee was only $7.99 vs. $23.29 and the size of the book I ordered from Apple was slightly bigger. If shipping cost of Blurb was more competitive then Blurb would be my choice of publisher.

Grant,

We definitely hear you. We are currently looking into and testing new shipping methods that would decrease these costs down for a lot of our customers. Look for an update here in the forums in the near future.

Thanks,

Kathy

I have had only one book from Apple and it was developed with iPhoto and the results were excellent. Keep in mind I have no A/B comparison with Blurb. One one hand Blurb software is much more flexible than iPhoto while on the other, for photo books, Aperture is easier for me to use and seemed more flexible than Blurb software, but with this flexibility came the responsibility for you to get it right. For books other than photographic books Blurb was the winner. if you have already paid for Aperture it is a good alternative but if you are just buying it to do books I would not recommend it. Unless, of course, you can regain the $200 cost in acquiring Aperture.

Given a competitively price choice I would go with Blurb because the three sizes of hard cover books would suite my needs better. But book i wanted would have cost almost $54 from Blurb and form Apple it costs me $38 and the difference is in shipping.

I will be waiting with interest to Kathy’s future announcement.

Grant,

I was wondering, can you use aperture with a pc or is it mac only? I looked at their website, but didn’t see anything about bookmaking software.

Thanks

Joe;

Not sure why this is in this thread; but…

Aperture is a MAC only product… No way to run it on a PC.

There is an alternative to Aperture on Macs, there is similar app THAT runs both on Macs and WIndows. It is called Adobe Lightroom.
