Using Fireworks MX for page layouts

I am designing a Yearbook and really want to change the page designs. Unfortunately I don’t have Photoshop or Indesign, I only have Fireworks MX.

I have created a canvas according to the dimensions on the site and at 300dpi (so it appears huge on my screen). I have exported it as a jpeg – I don’t know of any other settings in Firefox I should be using to export.

When I import the image into Blurb as a full bleed page it works, however when I preview the page and do a full zoom, it doesn’t look as clear as it does in Fireworks. Have I done something wrong or is it likely to print as sharp as in Fireworks?

Cheers!

Fireworks MX is ideally designed for creating web images, not ideally suitable for printed materials.

On a final note, Fireworks MX is kinda aging application. The newest version is called FIreworks CS3. To compare Fw CS3 to Firework MX, it is kinda totally different application. When you see “CS3”, it is also capable of transfering files anywhere between Adobe CS3 creative applications, as what legacy version of Macromedia Studio MX was designed to do so, in a similar fashion to CS3 suite apps.

If I were you, I’d get new applications, and I have CS3 Design premium package. So I don’t know if that helps you, and I don’t know if my suggestion be of helpful for you since I do not know if you work with designing project very often, or is it just for hobby project?

Cheers, Brian

Hi Brian

I know MX is older and that I know about the CS3 features. As I am a poor student I can’t afford to upgrade and so I have to make do with what I have.

Today I acquired Microsoft Expression Design for free as part of a student program that Microsoft are doing through our Uni. Don’t suppose anyone knows how I should be using that instead to export to Blurb?

@ Brian:

Hey Brian, do you know you can upgrade your MX system as a Uni student. The upgrade or purchase of new Adobe software also comes as an educational offer and costs less than 50%. So, if you are into Adobe, why don’t you give it a try? Al lyou have to do is submit evidence that you are a Uni student (Student ID and enrollemnt details) and… voila’!!

manlio2810,

I own a full license of Adobe Design Premium CS3. As for upgrading from formerly Macromedia Studio MX to CS3, I do not know for the answer. I also do not know the specifics about educational packages for university or other students for that matter. Best if you get the correct info by contacting Adobe customer service. I’ll just leave at that.
