Hi ShannonC,
As you are, when I first using BookSmart some months ago, and I was a little confused at first about print profile at the time.
But you need to realize that BookSmart only works with sRGB color profile. That is to say, you need to convert all of your images to sRGB colour profile.
I believe that you are familiar with soft proofing process in your design project. To work with BookSmart app and the outcome to have book printed almost as exactly what you see in your computer screen. I think the resource link related to soft proofing and there is a ICC print profile to softproof in Photoshop or perhaps that you have InDesign.
I found FAQ info on this topic, here:
What type of images work with BookSmart?
When I upload my images into BookSmart, some or all (eek!) appear in My Pictures library as a box with a question mark. What gives?
The problem is most likely the type of image file you’re trying to upload. BookSmart eagerly accepts JPG and PNG files that are formatted for RGB color. It can’t autoflow enough of them, actually. But TIFF, EPS, PDF, PICT, BMP, and GIF files give BookSmart hives, as do JPGs and PNGs that are formatted for CMYK color. You can easily convert files to the proper format using the image editor of your choice. (You may want to save the original version just in case.) And don’t worry: your new files are going to look terrific in your printed book.
Also, other FAQ info on this topic as well, that be of an interest and tip guideline, here:
Which image formats are supported in BookSmart?
Please follow these guidelines to make sure your images meet the following criteria: 1) JPG or PNG format (no TIFs) 2) sRGB or grayscale color (no CMYK) 3) Images must be saved on your hard drive and not on an external drive 4) If you’re using iPhoto, make sure your library has its default name and is saved in its default location 5) Please be sure that images are saved as 8-bit files and not 16-bit files. 8-bit files are the default, and you will probably know if you have saved any images as 16-bit. If so, please change those back to 8-bit files. 6) Images should be between 150 and 300 DPI (dots per inch or pixels per inch). For instance, a 5×7 image frame should be filled with an image that is at least 750×1050 pixels and no greater than 1500-2100 pixels.
As for custom full-bleed working with Adobe CS3 apps, here: http://blurberatiblog.com/index.php/2007/09/04/importing-pdfs-export-your-layout-from-adobe-cs3-into-booksmart/
Note, you also can conduct a search query at Blurerati Blog, where you can find pretty good helpful tips and all, all are offered in those Blog articles authored by Blurb staff team.
Also, for the softproof stuff and files to be downloaded, please refer to that URL link below: http://forums.dpreview.com/forums/read.asp?forum=1014&message=22048288
(The link above is at dpreview dot com site). Once you are on that webpage, go to other link from there, where you will find more detailed information and there are two files you want to download – PDF on how to and ICC profile to work with Blurb book.
Hope that helps, no?. If not, let us know.
