Text shifts from left to right boxes
Has anyone else had this problem? Here is the scenario. I have a page with three photos, each with a text box below each photo and once I have entered descriptive text in each box, closed the file and later on, re-opened the file, the text from the box on the left side and right side of the page have been swapped. Very disconcerting and I just caught this glitch moments before publishing. I also have an issue with text sizes not being allowed in text fields. I get a warning message that text exceeds space but, there seems to be enough room in the box to place two lones of text. I was using 11pt Palantino so I am pretty sure there was no issue with text overflow. It would be nice if we had the option to be able to generate or alter the size of the text boxes to accomodate larger font sizes. Thans for any rsponse that may shed some light on this problem. Maybe I missed something in the tutorials in which case, "My Bad."

Can’t help with the first problem, sorry. But the text warning you are getting is probably the result of a known bug. Check the page in Preview Book mode (lower left of the BookSmart window), if it looks fine there it will print fine. The other common cause of that warning is some non-printable characters at the end of your text, they usually get there when you paste the text from another application. You can check for those by clicking in the text field to activate it then choosing Edit…..Select All (Ctrl-A for Windows). If there is any such text this will show as highlighted "blanks" and you can go in and remove them. ........Tony

Thanks Tony for the Info. The text was not copied and pasted so there is no wories about non-printable characters there. It does/did show up properly in preview mode but, and there is always a but, I didn’t trust that it would print fine so I opted to drop the font size by 1 pt and it worked out OK then. Ther is still that nasty glitch of the text shifting from box to box though and I wish they would get a fix for that problem. Gets tedious having to proof your book avery time you open the file. Especially if it’s 60+ pages!

I think a similar problem with the columns of text moving around is discussed in the booksmart thread ‘text slippage’ where the problem was solved by copy/ pasting from notepad. I don’t know how to put a link in the thread, but its near the top at the moment.

Just got my last order from Blurb. Although the quality is fine and there was no issue with the text overflow because I changed text to 11pt instead of 12pt I did have a rather disaterous issue with an image shift. To explain, this is the second issue of this book with a couple spelling changes (caught in my first trial order as suggested ) and a couple more pages with new photos as well. NOw one of the pages with a full page photo and two inset photos has shifted considerably. Something I had not expected and I suppose should have been more vigilant in my inspection but was otherwise concerned with the text problem to notice. This is just another BUG with the new BLURB software. The original book file was used and like I mentioned a couple pages added but nothing more. I feel that this should not have happened and I will be more vigilant in the future. Yes that is right, despite the bugs I will still give Blurb another shot. Just a warning to those out there getting ready to place that order and want to see it ASAP. Take your time and check "Every little detail" before sending away your $250. for 5 books. (Hard cover with wrap around cover, 60+ pages)
