Booksmart BOOK PREVIEW

I am working a book, 13×11, I usually make my pages in Photoshop the right size, SRGB profile and save as Jpegs maximum quality. This is the first time I order a big one, usually they are 8×10 and they are good, but after uploading my cover and checking on Preview, it looks really, REALLY crappy, I can use some help. Thanks. T.T

I posted this question in another forum and it doesn’tt appear anywhere

Hello TT;

If your "other" question was about compression – then I responded to that…

As for this question – in all honesty, from the images you put up, I can’t see what’s wrong, but the first is too big to view properly, so it’s not a like for like comparison…

The only problem I have encountered in these scenarios is that sometimes (for reasons unknown) the preview image does appear pixellated… You should be aware that when you import an image into BookSmart – it actually creates FOUR new copies of the file; Original, Thumb, Screen & Zoom… It is the smaller working files which are used for the editing process while the "original2 file is the one used on upload… so… occassionally the compression used in the working files gives the "appearance" of a problem when it really doesn’t exist…

If you are confifent that your original image is good – then all will (should!) be OK…

Cheers;

Lee

Hi Tito;

Downloaded the file – nice "moody" image…

Imported to BookSmart, and I can see slight pixellation and / or artifacting when in Preview mode at 100%... but… I don’t think you have anything to worry about…

The original image looks fine to me (opened in PhotoShop for review), so I would think that the artifacting is due to BookSmart’s use of low-res files for working / display purposes along with the fact that the image is slightly under-sized for the full-bleed cover; but that won’t make any noticeable difference…

As I noted before, when you have finished your book and are ready to upload, BookSmart will use the ".original" copy of the file for processing, so all should be well…

Good luck;

Lee
