rotating text

Has anyone a solution to rotate text.
I mean this: I want to put text parallel to some pictures, but like to put the text vertical (just like in the spine of the cover).
Rotating a picture is easy, you just click on the image container and there comes a menu. But clicking on text/text container doesn’t do such a thing – although in the manual/help it is suggested that this is easy to do (see question: rotating picture).
What is the solution: make text vertical in another program (in design, quark?) and then import this?
