Any Notice the "Ornament" feature in BookSmart didn't come back from Blurb printer properly and missing in shipped order?

Anyone Notice the "Ornament" feature in BookSmart didn’t come back from Blurb printer properly? And all the ornaments are missing on my copy.

I recently received my book and noticed that the pages looked odd.  I then realized that the "Ornamnt" features that are on my BookSmart Book App are present and on the book that was published they are completely absent from all the pages. Everything was perfect on my end.   What is going on at the printers?  So much time spent on this and a few book orders later now what?

You should contact Customer Service to see what they say. I’ve removed most of the ornaments I was going to use in a new book because parts if not all of the images are in the trimline/pink area & apparently will not show up in the published book. I’ve contacted CS twice about this & received no response. There is also a problem w/some of the pattern backgrounds. The ones that have a single object on the side of a pg are also going to be cut off when published.

I had a problem with a certain font with one printing of my book.  Fortunately it was a test copy.  But what was supposed to be a script-type font ended up being a very bold font.  Due to both that error and the binding problem, Blurb gave me a credit to upload and reprint the book.

Note that if I had looked more closely at the uploaded book online in my account, I would have noticed that the font had changed from what I saw in the Booksmart software to what I saw online.

@loricherokee  CS was kind to me today and resolved the issue, though I do not have a print of what they fixed. I was given a credit balance to be used in 3 months for a reprint of my book.  I don’t use those patterend backgrounds too much for that same reason.  Besides my book is on other peoples artwork and a few of mine.

Because the book failed to export or back up I was told I had to change the book title containing no symbols or underscores.   That worked and was able to create the export  file to my desktop.  Then I supplied fonts and could only do that on a document I created in microsoft word, changing each word to that particular font.  I had 15 different fonts going on. Hope there are no hiccups during print.

@friend1979 – I noticed that in BookSmart that the fonts are tempermental and tend to bounce around and fit where they feel like.  Also notice that the actual font in the layout differs from the one in the menu bar.  It still has some issues. When you place the cursor in the middle of a word, it doesn’t match up to the fonts that you are currently using in that word or text box.

Other than all this I will wait for the replacement book and see how that turns out.  My group is "Art On Call" on facebook if you like art!  and you can preview "Artists Gone Global" here

The book’s quality I must say I do like !!!  I like Blurb!

My question is about how to remove one from a page? I can’t seem to find a delete button to remove an ornament I mistakenly place on the wrong page. …any ideas as to which button to click to remove ornaments?

Thanks, ella

Last month when I ordered 40 of my books, the ornaments were removed from all the books.  I contacted CS and they issued me a credit for a future order.  I also had to return all the books at their expense.  When I ordered my second set of books, the CSR took a look at my book in queue and confirmed that the ornaments were there.  The second set is arriving tomorrow and I am keeping my fingers crossed that nothing is wrong with this set as they are Christmas gifts.  Good luck with yours.  It is quite frustrating though.

After 3 attempts, everything seems to be in place though will not receive any books til Dec 30ish.  I know it’s not easy for everyone.  Thus, I will have to pitch book sale after the holidays as this was bad timing trying to get a perfect book out 2-4 weeks before Christmas.  It’s seems to me that quality conrol is "what it is" when book processing is farmed out to multiple printers.  Like rolling dice and sometimes the dice are the fonts or ornaments that seem to get swallowed up between your outpput into cyberspace and blurb to the printer.

I suppose the key is to know that if  these are for Christmas we will probably have to follow the trend of retail and department stores…wrap things up by the end of September and know that each issue is sometimes resolved in 7 days.

Meanwhile I would like to thank the techy’s Padraic and Craig who did do the best they could do over at Blurb with these incedents….and to all a good night!
