Print quality erratic
Hello all, I’ve recently published my first photography book here at Blurb and ordered my first copies. Overall, I liked the print quality in premium paper lustre finish. (although not quite up there at the level of my Epson R3000, a fact that surprised me). All my pages have a black background and the blacks are dense, so I was pleased. Then I noticed a couple of spelling errors and other small details so I resubmited my 2nd and final version. I ordered a new copy in the same paper and, to my surprise, the blacks are cr#p, much less dense, and the overal contrast of the photographs went a bit down, losing punch… Also, the full spreads are a bit offset vertically, they don’t match exactly.. If this is a usual matter with blurb it’s a big deal for potential buyers and a big downer. Has anyone experienced this hit-or-miss quality in print? Prior to contact custommer support I’d love to heear your experiences. Thanks in advance.

I had a similar experience. The first four copies I ordered of my photography book were perfect. The next (larger) batch was horrible. The photos were off color, very crooked on the pages and not in focus. I contacted customer service but got no real help and was not offered a refund. I ordered a third batch, and while they were much better than batch two, they were still not as good as the first four copies. I need more copies and will probably order again with my fingers crossed. Not knowing what you’re going to see when you open the box is stressful, and this is not an inexpensive undertaking.

Yeah, it’s everything but inexpensive. and now a friend who bought my book and got it yesterday told me the first photo is ‘misprinted’ and she’ll be contacting customer support. I don’t know what she means exactly by ‘misprinted’ but this is very worrisome, after having read so much about the wonders of Blurb books… I hope I’m wrong but it looks like quality control is not that good.
