Book Printing

Is there a quality control process?

A book that was intended as a Christmas gift arrived with the dust jacket incorrectly printed/folded.  None of the images line up with where they are supposed to be.  The spine printing is half on the spine and half on the cover.  The inside and outside flaps have portions of the cover image on them.  Clearly no human quality-controlled this book before it was shipped.

This is my fifth order with Blurb and 3 of them have had production problems of one kind or another.  Makes me wonder whether there is even any point in giving them another shot.

Blurb,

Once again I second this person’s point, and re-iterate that although it is incredible how well you deal with problems when they happen, the real issue seems to be the need to get quality control fixed so these problems don’t arise in the first place.

Yeah I agree… Why can’t they simply check the books before sending it out- although I hear their customer service is amazing, they will save a lot of money (from not having to reprint and reship) if they just check the items before they are sent out. Not to mention frustration on customers part having to wait for the reprinted order to arrive…

I agree completely about Quality Control or Quality Assurance should be implemented. That will save both side: bookmakers and Blurb’s time and money. With QA implemented, and if someone at Printer with QA implemented, then it should reduce error.

Perhaps that for those who wish to submit Feedback or Suggestion web submission form for Blurb and tell Blurb team about Quality Assurance need to be look at and examined. The more feedback or suggestion submitted, the better.

I would think that Blurb team and management team are well-aware of the quality assurance problem. But I would think giving the feedback on the topic, the better.

I cannot say much further, but you are encouraged to submit and encourage Blurb team to examine the QA. Please note that Blurb subcontracts printed files to off-site printers anywhere where they see fit (and depending on where bookmakers’ live and location, and the nature of book itself and all parameters involved. It is beyond what we can do, but Blurb team should look into that and that they probably want to work and resolve that issue – important issue on QA that “subcontracted” Printers must implement.
