What other publishing services let you sell your non-US book?
Since the non-US Set Your Price option is still not resolved, I would like to look at other options. Does anyone know of any other services that will do the things Blurb does and yet will also let a non-American sell their book online? I am hoping that Blurb gets this figured out before I leave them, but I cannot wait around forever.

Just curious, but what did you do before Blurb and it’s ilk? As you probably discovered in your search of this subject Blurb has said they wiil try to have the service available outside the US some time in the first quarter of 2008.

Before Blurb and its ilk, I did not publish books, and I was delighted to find Blurb because the product I have received from them has been, thus far, excellent. I will likely continue to use them for personal, one-off books production. In fact, I used Blurb to produce family xmas books featuring photos of our son, Alex – 15 copies of an 80 page hardcover, so not an inconsiderable investment. However, I have some very good publishing ideas that I want to sell online; I’m using Booksmart to put the first one together as we speak, and it is on track to be ready for publication in Jan or, at worst, Feb of 2008. If, as Blurb has most recently claimed, the non-US SYP issue is resolved in Q1 of 2008, then great – that is the best possible scenario. But they’ve made promises about when this would be resolved before, and the time promised came and went. Consequently, I am concerned that this might happen again. If that happens, I need to have a plan B. It would suck going to another provider, because I would have to reassemble the book, but at least the photos are selected, groomed, and ready to be dropped into place. So I reiterate my original question.

Hi shoesonwires – Quote: "But they’ve made promises about when this would be resolved before, and the time promised came and went." I’m not sure what you’re referring to here. We’ve consistently stated that we were going to try to have International SYP available in the first quarter of 2008 (which means by March 31, 2008). Also, please keep in mind, Q108 is our goal, but we haven’t "promised" this date. We know this is a very important feature to a lot of Blurb members, and it’s just as important to us. We’d love nothing more than to have Non-US SYP available this second. Rest assured, we’re doing everything we can to get there.

My apologies – I just looked back at the thread that prompted my comment on Blurb committing to a date when this issue would be resolved: http://forums.blurb.com/forums/6/topics/83 and I see that I mis-remembered its content. Blurb didn’t promise a date, just said this issue was a priority almost six months ago, and according to at least one other user (Alex Wilson) this issue was "in the works" over a year ago. Please don’t get me wrong. I’m not slagging Blurb, and there’s nothing I’d like better than to stay with you guys. I just need a backup plan to go with in case the complexity of this issue proves too much for you. After all, you’ve been working on it for at least a year with no "promise" as to when we are going to see some results.

I think you guys are losing a lot of potential clients and money because of this, why does it take months and months to get this all set up? Is it that different from the US system?
