Same situation here. Ordered my second book 9 business days ago and it hasn’t even shipped yet. No explanation whatsoever. Estimated shipping was oct 25, last Thursday. Friday, at the end of the day, I sent en email to support and received a quite fast response. However, the reply said that whenever the estimated date is not met, usually the book ships within the next 2 business days. Nope, nothing yet. And they do not give an actual reason for the delay, they only apologize and say that eventually it may happen. The status still shows processing… estimated shipping date 10-25-2007. Can you believe? Frustating. When I ordered my first book, the process was totally smooth. I will probably try another company next time. After having this delay problem, I have found several blogs and posts on the web complaining about blurb delays and lack of consideration with its customers. I visited the Blurb stand at Photo Plus NY last week and the company representatives all said it would take 7 business total to receive a book in NY. Guess they should stop misleading their potencial customers…

gtadday, Interesting that Blurb’s representatives at Photo Plus said it would take 7 business days to receive a book. That had been my experience when Blurb shipped my books from Springfield, MA (300mi from Rochester, NY, my location). My most recent orders have shipped from Seattle, WA (2700mi away). Two days from MA and 7 days from WA by UPS ground. When I complained to customer service they said there was a backlog in MA which still exists since my most recent orders arecoming from the West Coast. By the way the time to print a book is WA is taking longer than it took from MA. The bottom line is that Blurb has been getting my books to me in 14 to 21 days. Not too bad if you are not on a deadline. If on a dead line I would be careful about my dates since you can’t make estimates based on one prior experience. My number are based on 10 order placed since the middle of September.

lcarreira,
At least you got a real explanation for the delays, the backlog in MA. When I contacted them, I just got a vague explanation that, in other words, said it may happens, it is part of the process. No real facts. My frustation also comes from the fact that the website states it takes 5 to 6 business days to print (plus shipping). I planned and chose the shipping method based on that. I would have planned accordingly if they have said it would take 10 business days or more to print. My estimate was not based on a prior experience but on their facts. And worst of all, the status page still shows esitmated shipping date 10-25. At least they could update it to reflect the real estimated shipping date (the new one) and I would know what is going on. As it is right now, it seems like they just forgot about my order and do not care about it. As Wowpics said in the first post, I guess there is no other choice but wait. Just wait. Thank you for taking the time to share your experience!

gtadday, Understand your frustration. I don’t think there is any connection in Blurbs delivery system to keep information current as with Amazon for example. I have had two situations where the books shipped 2-3 days before the "predicted" ship date and once received a book one day before it "shipped" and was still "processing" as the UPS truck drove up to deliver the book. I have also experience what you complained about, twice a book did not ship until 2 days after the predicted ship date. So everyone should watch close dead lines. Allowing atleast three weeks from ordering to receiving a book is a lot safer than using Blurb’s estimate. Another less I learned is you can’t assume your book is coming from the same location as your last one. I used 2nd day air to get a book from MA (300mi away) only to get it in two days by truck. (Hey the promise was 2 days). Ordered the next book and went for ground service. Book shipped from seattle (2700mi) got it in 7 days. Why have the shipping option if you can’t even tell me where the book is coming from? Sorry if it sounds like I’m dumping on Blurb. They have a great product but they still have away to go to meet customer requirements. Have they ever had a focus group study of customers across the US (to begin with).? Pretty basic. If they have let us know.

Praise the Lord!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! My book finally shipped. However, my relationship with this client is ruined. She advised me that this is bad business and I should use a new company to print my books. I guess you win some and you lose some in the small business world. I like the ease of use with blurb and will continue to use them on personal projects that aren’t on a deadline. Otherwise, I will just plan for a month to receive anything that is on a deadline. I still am embarrassed every time I see this client because the only thing I can continue to tell her is that I apologize. Apologies don’t mean much these days without some sort of compensation. For the services rendered to her, I have voided out her balance for the inconvenience. Now that’s customer service! There’s hope GTADDAY!

Oh, P.S., I did receive $10 off for my next book order. I am grateful for that . Some companies won’t do anything! :)

Wowpics,
I am glad your book is on its way. Mine is not. It’s been 11 business days today since I ordered it a no updates. The response I received said it usually ships in one or two business days after the estimated shiiping time when it is late. Today is the 5th business day AFTER the estimated shipping date. Maybe hope it is all I can have at this point.

I live in Springfield, Ma I wonder where the books are coming from here. How long do you think it would take to get my book? Could anyone tell me what the shipping cost are like? I read theyare high what is high? Shipping can make or brake a deal. Thanks

Sarahsmom, Shipping by UPS have cost me any where from $6.50-8.50 for a single book. Some books are shipped from Springfield but your book could be shipped from the least busy printer. I have usually gotten my books from Springfield (300mi away) or Seattle WA (2700mi away). Springfield takes 2 days and Seattle 7 days. The total time is usually a wash since when my book is sent to Seattle the printing is faster but the shipping time is longer. But my most recent order of 8 hardcover books cost $7.83 total. Price is actually lower with a few more books instead on just one. If you are doing one for the Holidays you’re running out of time.

Thanks when people talked about shipping being expensive I thought big bucks. I don’t think $6,50-$8,50 is a lot. I do want it for the holidays but the person I want it for I don’t think I will see them until after New Years. They live out of town. Please tell me does it cost more for the book to be reordered? I am making a wedding book for my god son, say his other releative see it and want a copy, does it cost more? Thanks Linda

Linda - An easy way to get a sense for potential shipping costs is to find a book in the bookstore, ideally one similar to the book your plan on creating for your god son, and walk though the first step of the check-out process. Just plan on 2 weeks… no matter what the site says. Each of my orders arrived in 2 weeks from West Springfield to Eastern Mass. The problem is that Blurb seems to be locked into 1 week and doesn’t change based on what’s actually happening. This creates a false expectation. West Springfield work is good quality. And most important don’t throw out the baby with the bath water… a Blurb product is worth waiting for.

Linda, It does not cost more if you reorder a book. Just remember that the books you see in the book store will (usually) include an additional cost set by the author for their profit. You can print as many of your books as you want for your basic price based on book size and number of pages as indicated in the pricing information listed by Blurb. Go for it! I don’t think you will be disappointed. I also agree that the shipping price isn’t excessive but it could be lower with some other options. I also agree with yellowstone. Allowing 2weeks (ordering to receiving the book) means you will be pleasantly surprised half the time and satisfied the rest of the time. That’s been my experience.

Wondering if my book has shipped. The estimated day to ship was on 11/6/07 and I still haven’t gotten a notice in my email that my book has shipped. Please let me know if Blurb is falling behind. I am a new customer and at this point, I am not happy, please let me know whats going on.

stefrich, It’s better to check your Dash Board on your home page where you can see the status of your order. It will say when it ships even faster than an email. You could also send an email to customer support. You won’t get a specific answer to this type of question on the Forum. I just received an order shipped about 6 (business) days after the estimated ship date so don’t despair yet. I think some of their printers are back-loged. Since they have a number of printer partners a Blurb Staffer will not say they are "falling behind" because it depends on the specific printer that your book went to. My experience is that the eastern printer in MA tend to be backloged. I know that because I live close by (300mi) and half my orders come from Seattle (2700mi) away. Even with the extra 5 days for shipping it’s faster from Seattle when the book comes from there.
