International "Set Your Price Program"

Hi,

Any progress on this? I would love to be able to make a few euro (I’m in Ireland) on each book to cover my costs.  I would have though that PayPal was relatively easy to implement. Is it a tax issue or a cost issue? Your competitors lulu seem to be able to pay in Europe.

We are targeting the first quarter of 2008 for this initiative.  As this draws near we will post several announcements throughout the community.

We have spent some time over the past few months, working closely with legal and accounting, to better understand the tax and earnings reporting requirements for each country. We are also in the process of establishing specific European banking relationships for processing payment as not everyone would be able to take advantage of PayPal. To add to this , we currently do not support PayPal but is something we are taking into consideration for 2008.

In short, we are doing our necessary due diligence to help ensure this goes as smoothly as possible.

I’d welcome this too and in the meanwhile would like to know how many of my book have sold – just as info

BTW – my test version of the first book arrived and it looked better than expected.

I did a pretty lousy job on layout and am now preparing the final version and a new 150 book. You have allowed me to organize my images and thoughts so thank you!

I’m italian but nowaday I live in Iceland. I would like to know if i’m earnign any money with my book that actually is in Blurb Staff Picks and that got 600 views in the first 5 days!!! I really need to know exactly how many copies i have just sold (I know for sure that they are not less than 10 added to 11 that i ordered). This is a good website, but these unknown aspects are really important to be solved. I did several kinds of advertisment on blogs, flickr and website to try to encrease the sales. The first quarter of 2008 it really late for everyone out of USA and in that time maybe i will have sold a lot of books without any euros back. I’m building other books to continue the serie I started with this book, but I will quit if in a short period i will not get a good answer to this point.

Best Regards.

Thank you for your answer, but i NEED all the answers to my questions. I think tha I’m in the right to know this answers.

  1. Am I earning any euros for the book i am selling on BLURB.com?
  2. How many copies i have just sold?
  3. If it’s not simple to understand the problems of an INTERNATIONAL Set Your Price, it’s impossible to understand why i can not know the number of copies that you are selling of my book.

So now I’m asking 3 QUESTIONS and it wuold be grat to have 3 ANSWERS.

Best Regards.

Paolo,

From this thread and others, your answers are clear.  1. You can’t make money on your book selling it through Blurb unless you live in the US … for now.  2. They don’t have a reporting scheme for individual books not in the Set Your Price program. 3. See #2.

If you can’t stand not making money on your book through Blurb sales, then make it private and buy and sell copies yourself.

By the way, your book is gorgeous.

Keep in mind that as a US-based company it is simply easier to ramp up and pilot programs  within the US.

That said, for a company as relatively young as Blurb we are able to transact in multiple currencies and have a print partner based in Europe. Both were put in place this summer (14 months after launching) to better serve our valued customers in Europe and Asia. Coming in early 2008 we have plans to roll out shipping alternatives for our friends in Canada and Australia, extend Set Your Price, and further expand our market reach.  We always put a global lens to any discussion around growing the business.

Stay tuned to the forums and Blurberati blog for updates.

I am Australian, living in the Philippines, and I think that the constraints which prevent me from having my book in the Bookstore, even to earn a little pittance, suck big time.  Currently, you make money on selling my book, and you prevent me from making any, except if I invest in acquiring a large stock of them, and support UPS. That’s 21st century technology "print on demand" being stuffed into 18th century business practices.

When you talk about a "global lens", I think you are kidding yourself.  Presently, your system is that if  you are not a US Citizen, with a US Bank Account, you are little people.

Had you offered PayPal, I could have increased sales significantly.

My Book’s production quality is brilliant. Pity that people are buying it and I am not making a cent on it, because of your failure to understand what your customer needs.

I am awaiting receipt of my book – I can’t wait! I know that I will be happy with it. Personally, I am not interested in making money on it. But I would really like to know how many have been sold. I have bought six copies, and I know that about 5 of my friends have bought one.

However, the book has been made a ‘Staff Pick’ and it appears that over 600 people have had a look at my book (all within a few days). This has really amazed me, and I am grinning from ear to ear :). Would it be at all possible to tell me how many copies have been sold – like I said, I am not bothered about the money, just want to know the numbers sold. Not really a terrible question!

To all the users who keep complaining about the lack of internation bookselling support – GET OVER IT!

They’re (blurb) are doing the best they can to maintain a startup business, respond to everyone’s questions AND continue to develop the service. I think Blurb is a great service: i’m looking forward to my second LOMO book and I am eagerly awaiting the international sales support so that I can peddle my wares online.

People get patient and share a little blurb lovin

Hi everyone in Blurbland! I’m in New Zealand and I stumbled onto this site accidently while trying to get SmugMug on board with their multiple currency options to sell my images online – which has been an issue to SmugMug for over 2 years! They still refuse to help me sell my images in my currency ($NZ Dollar).

From reading the forums above, I really really REALLY hope, Blurb will make more of an effort, and for now, I’m happy to order books from here, and sell them locally here in New Zealand by word of mouth – to make a small profit to continue my photography.

I’m always open to listening to the owners of these sites, what they have to say about becoming global and having all countries be apart of these ventures.

Finger’s crossed, Blurb will stand out from other sites to provide that international market – and only being several months old; it’s appealing; but lets fill the gaps! and like I’ve said other US sites, I’m happy to wait.

Keep the good work Blurb! Looks great – and i’m about to attempt putting together my first book! – since I can’t  sell my images seperately online…yet.

 So many people can benefit….

 Hamish, New Zealand.
