Canada shipment / UPS / Great Quality
Just thought you would be interested in some positive feedback on several counts. The book arrived in only 8 business days from being uploaded (excellent service)and the declared value obviated the onerous UPS-related surcharges (apparently also the subject of a Canadian class action lawsuit which I discovered after ordering). However, I would add my vote to those wishing to do away with UPS as an option for shipping to Canada for reasons already discussed in the forum. However, you did well in this case. Thanks very much for that alone. The (hardcover 7×7) book itself was excellent, exceeding expectations, and appears to have faithfully reproduced all (>200) of the color photos. Great job and a good experience (which I hope to repeat in the near future). Thanks.

That’s great news axelsond….let us know how the next book turns out. Interesting news on the class-action lawsuit. I’ll search that out.

So, how much was your duty and shipping charges?

I am not the OP but I can give you the costs for the books I received to Toronto Canada: First shipment of 5 books 7×7, the "Import Charges" paid to the UPS man was $19.25 (this is in addition to the $15.00 shipping charges paid to Blurb via VISA). Second shipment of 5 books, 8×11, the "Import Charges" paid to the UPS man was $19.75 (again, in addition to the $15.00 shipping).

This is ridiculous. I live in Toronto and have just ordered a softcover. Will I have to pay $ 19 something on top of the $33 that is the cost of the book plus shipping.? Can a fellow Canadian give me some more information please?

I paid the standard shipping fee of $13.65 from Blurb for two 7×7 books as noted above, but I paid nothing to UPS on delivery (in Canada).

I ordered 12 books and in addition to the $17 Blurb delivery charge, I had to pay the UPS guy $20. This was back in Sept. so if something has changed I would like to know. I have not been ordering any more books because of the outragous UPS charges. Dale

UPS is such a rip off because of brokerage charges I refuse to use them. So I’m very upset to find out that this is the only way I can ship using blurb. Very very very disappointed :(

Thanks you alelsond for the link regarding the class action lawsuit that has been initiated against UPS in Bc, Canada. If you are a Canadian who has been ripped off by these bandits, join the suit. Here is the link again: http://www.poynerbaxter.com/UPS.htm Glen Lancaster

I filled the form out, but for some reason it wouldn’t submit. All it did was open up a couple of windows in my email program. Don’t know if this is a general issue or just a Mac vs Win or IE vs Firefox issue. Oh well.

There is also an email address on the Class Action site that you can use to communicate directly instead of using the form.

I wonder why Blurb doesn’t ship to us by post?

The point at which UPS starts slapping on a surcharge for shipments to Canada is $20.00 declared value. Because Blurb declares the value of books being shipped to Canada as $5.00, you can order 3 books and pay no extra fees. My needs are small, so I submit my orders in 3-book lots.

First off, great quality books, I ordered 11 in total, hard and soft cover, really quick production. I’ve had numerous problems with UPS in the past and heard that if you pay extra for the premium services that they don’t screw you for the duties, taxes etc etc. Paid $55.00 for expedited (2 day) shipping, the package was left on my doorstep 5 days later after numerous calls to UPS customer service (?). But….........no additional charges.

I ordered my first book from Blurb on January 4, 2008 and it arrived at my home in Toronto on January 14, 2008 via UPS. There was no charge by UPS – all I paid was the cost of the book plus Blurb’s shipping charge which was about $14.00. Furthermore, though UPS’ tracking number, supplied by Blurb, I was able to track my book’s progress to my door. My first experience with Blurb has been outstanding in every way. I am delighted with the quality of the book. I will be using Blurb in the very near future for more photo books.

Blurb needs to take a page out of MyPublisher’s book; they ship FedEx Express to Canada (cheaper than Blurb’s UPS charges, too), and note this: <table cellspacing="1" border="0" cellpadding="0"><tbody><tr valign="top"><td bgcolor="#aaccdd" class="tableColHeader"> </td> <td bgcolor="#ffffff" class="tableContent">NEW: Customers do not have to pay brokerage fees. Courier brokerage fees are included in our shipping cost. The recipient is responsible for any additional taxes, duties or other customs fees charged by the Canadian government upon delivery.</td></tr></tbody></table>Come on blurb, I really want to use your service but it’s just not worth it until you solve this by moving to USPS or FedEx.

oops – that should read: "NEW: Customers do not have to pay brokerage fees. Courier brokerage fees are included in our shipping cost. The recipient is responsible for any additional taxes, duties or other customs fees charged by the Canadian government upon delivery."

Canuck88,
Do you have more specific information you provided, a link to website/web page on the topic to reflect more info on side of Canadian customers and the expected deliveries.
I suspect that most of the time, customers *do* not like any new surprises or such like that. Well informed in advance with specific information would be nice and helpful in advance of time, I would think.
