Ordering and Shipping

Check out our new shipping calculator

You spoke. We listened.

We’ve just rolled out our new shipping calculator  –  a nifty way to estimate shipping costs before you actually place an order. Here’s the blog post with all of the details.

Let us know, as you always do, what you think.

I was a bit stunned to see the estimate of how much a 36 page portrait book (what I ordered) would cost if it were shipped to the Philippines. I was billed $66.72 for a UPS Express Saver of my order and the estimate was $45.47 of the same time of delivery. What a big difference in prices even if it’s just an estimate.

Though it’s a nice idea to have a shipping calculator :)

That’s all nice and handy, but where is a calculator for other methods of shipping beside UPS??

We here in Canada, hate this courier. They are robbing us daily with their "brokerage fees"... Help us, please…

As I said in my separate post, I will not order any multiple orders untill I can choose some other way of shipping. Somebody says USPS

When we offer more shipping options, the calculator will reflect those new options. Until then, the calculator only shows the vendors we currently work with.

Thanks Kathy,

can you give us any time line on when we can expect multiple shipping options?

Regards.

I’m with sisoje on this one… will not order anything anymore that is shipped only by UPS… outrageous prices for shipping/handling when compared to USPS when shipping out of the US (the extra fees when things show up at the door are stunning to say the least).

Integrating USPS is something we are currently working on and remain optimistic that this will occur in Q1 of this year.

Great news!

If you can only combine this feature with the option to set the profit price from Canada, you can  expect a lot of orders/books from this address….

One thing has never been explained…WHY can’t you add USPS? What was or is the hangup? It seems quite a simple task. Is it a contract you have with UPS? Is it the bank you deal with? Any printer in any state can ship something using the post office sowhy is this a hangup with the printing partners? You also need to update your order form to reflect true international shipping. The state codes are not provided except for the mainland states. Guam is GU but only Georgia is found. Anyway, nothing will be new or useful until you provide cheap and reasonable options, which all starts with USPS. I’m with the Canada guy. I can’t order anything in any numbers until I know I can get it here reasonably. I won’t even announce publication because people will be shocked at UPS prices. I am embarrassed to ask people to pay those costs. So you sell nothing and i sell nada. Not good business. I sure do hope USPS intergration comes in Q1.

As mentioned in several other posts, we currently do not have a printer that we are able to integrate with USPS. If it were as simple as flipping a switch we would do so without hesitation. This is something we are actively working on and there is a solution coming soon.

As soon as this is addressed we will communicate it within the forums and blog.

Thank you. You should also communicate it to any customer contacts you have. The shipping costs are the biggest deterrents to their buying the books. I think you will be surprised at the rise in volume of sales once you get rid of UPS or at least expand to USPS.

Hi Blurb Staff Folks,

OK, so I checked with the Post Office and they say you don’t need any sort of specialized printing. All you need is a good scale and your computer printer. They say there is a shipping calcultor on the USPS website. Using this you can print out a bar coded shipping label and pay online and its done. If your print partners use computers and the internet and there are printers attached to those computers, you can use USPS. I would assume you can get the partners to send you shipping details the same way they do for UPS. The solution appears to be buying paper for a printer.

Best,

T

HI Blurb Staff,

I have compeleted a book to be in the print. But as the above discussion goes, the International pricing is a big detterrent to me. I stay in New Delhi, and I know the book will be selling in numbers. Its not about the book price but its about the shipping price which no one will pay from the international places.

It costs me double the price to get the book shipped to New Delhi, India for 120 pages book. I have three books lined up to go into the print but I just want to do them with Blurb. I can still think of ordering it for myself but when I have to pass the link to others, no one will opt for paying the price higher than the book itself on shipping, and that too when there is no tracking option on it.

Can we have the other ways or with USPS, I have ordered previously too and it all comes safe even without tracking. I do not think with the above words and justification from TimRock, it seems that it is such a difficult thing to achieve. I hope there shall be a positive outcome to this.

 Mani.
