Ordering and Shipping

Why do I have to order a copy of my photo book?

I spent a long time putting together what I was hoping was going to be a nice photo book.  I worked with the slow and buggy software and fought through issues until I finally had a product I was happy with.  Then I upload it and unexpectedly see that I can’t even share it with anybody until I order it??

I don’t want to order it!  I made it for other people to enjoy!  I’ve seen it.  I have all the photos.  I have no interest in ordering a copy for myself, so now I’m left with three weeks of hard work for absolutely nothing because no one can see my book until I order it, which I’m not going to do because I had no interest in ordering a copy of a book that I stared at for three weeks and can look at whenever I want on the computer.

Someone please tell me that this isn’t seriously my only option.

Cavaroc,

It is your only option.  You’ve used Blurb’s free software and want to leave your masterpiece on their servers in the hope that someone will buy it.  The only way they can pay for this, is by selling books.  So, they start by requiring the person who uses their free services to pony up.  Seems reasonable to me.

Sorry Cavaroc,

but I have to agree with dagree. Nowt for nowt being a venerable English saying (You get nothing if you pay nothing being the modern translation).

I ordered my first book and when I recieved it, I found I needed to make  to make a couple of revisions.
I sold several copies of the original books in the Blurb bookstore before the revisions. Now, I have to buy another book in order for the public to view the revised book.  Why can’t they just substitute the revised book for the earlier version.

I ran into the same issue but I can see the point. If you make revisions you need to final proof the book. Its normal policy in professional printing companies(been there, worked that) . Plus Blub gets you to buy another book. In my case in ALASKA I have the added priviledge of paying $30 for shipping a 2lb package,  no options there, unless I send it to a friend in Seattle for $10 and they ship it to me via US postal service. Now, don’t you feel better. I dont make changes until I am ready to order 10 or more books. I am checking into other digial book companies that send USPS for much less. I found shipping statement  from Blurb from 2006 that charged $8 for shipping 2 books. Must have been before they had any traffic in Alaska – quite a jump in price for UPS I’d say.
