Live in Th UK
I was wondering which is the best service to use for shipping to the UK? Would anybody be able to point me in the right direction please? ?!

I know it’s more expensive, but I just got my book and used UPS and it arrived in about 3 days with no problem – and I tracked it with the tracking number they gave me all the way. From printing, it arrived in the UK virtually overnight and the only reason I had to wait another two days was because UPS don’t deliver at weekeds. Plus, if you use an untrackable option such as Swiss Post, you don’t have any comeback if the book goes missing in the post. Blurb will probably tell you that you should’ve used a tracking option and they have no way of helping you.

For my 80-page hardback large format book that’s in for publishing now (due to ship this coming Monday) I chose UPS standard. It was £6 more than Swiss Post but I reallly want to see it as quick as possible in case I need to make changes before ordering a few more.
I expect to order 5 copies for that number UPS standard works out about £6 cheaper than Swiss Post and half the price of Swiss Post Priority. So I’ll use UPS again.

Hello bullahorn; For me; it’s a "no-brainer"! UPS Standard is the way to go – certainly for the UK. I’ve just ordered my latest 300 page book, and it was only a few pounds more expensive than Swiss Post – but you get "guaranteed" delivery – well at least you get to track the delivery! I really don’t understand why users would spend huge amounts of time & effort developing their books, spend money on the printing, and then scrimpt for a few quid on the delivery! The brown man man rules! Cheers; Lee

I used Swiss Post priority for mine, and it arrived quickly – it was dispatched three days before the estimate, and arrived within 9 days of ordering (including two weekends).

I also use Swiss Post for general delivery, once I have ‘debugged’ the book. For speed I use UPS initially while I am proofing and correcting, then I switch to the cheaper option. Its useful to know that UPS may not be more expensive for multiple copies. Thanks for the info.

I used the cheapest option and I’m regretting it because it still isn’t here yet despite having ‘shipped’ last Monday. It’s my first one and I really wanted to see what it looked like before submitting any more, but had to put in my husband’s because it was finished and we want a copy to give his mother on her birthday, so we used the middle priced shipping for that and hope it’s a bit faster. I am a student, so budget is an issue to me! What I was wondering is whether the book[s] will arrive in the normal post or whether they could turn up at any time during working hours? I assume the more expensive option would be the kind that turn up any time, but the cheapest one seems like it might turn up in the morning post?

Annette; If you used SwissPost, then Royal Mail will deliver by Parcel Post, which could be any time in the day… If you used a tracking option, then it will be delivered by a Courier, but, again, it could be any time during the day. There are no "timed" delivery options as far as I’m aware… Lee

Thanks Lee, it turned up this morning in the regular post, it was only a small 40 page softback. I guess a bigger one would have been treated as a parcel. It’s so nice to have it! :)

Ordered hubby’s book via a tracking option and the book has left the Netherlands and gone to… Germany! Is this normal? It seems counterintuitive for it to be headed in the opposite direction to the UK. Is that why the postage costs so much, they send it on a grand tour of Europe first? Hopefully, next stop England!

Annette; Don’t panic! All couriers hub & spoke, so sometimes you will see packages appearing to go the most bizarre routes… Lee
