probably my books are not appetizing, too… people just looking but no any sales.
maybe they just don’t like my works or maybe my books are just bad. don’t know..

Why is image size and file size different when exported from Lightroom 4...
Book Design and Imaging

Hi Nick
When exporting as a JPG image because of the way the compression algorythmns (sp) work say if you had a blue sky it wouldn’t have to make a lot of differentiation between the colours so the file size would be smaller.
If you had a really complex architectural image with lots of lines and details then the image wouldn’t compress as much making the file size larger.
If you want a consistent file size for all your images (as they are in Lightroom) export them as PSD or TIF files, they will be the same for each one!
Cheers
Steve

Not sure, but it seems like REINSTALLATION OF KASPERSKY ANTIVIRUS has fixed the issue.

Trying to calibrate iMac to blurb books
Book Design and Imaging

Not sure where to post this. I just got a new iMac, and I’m trying to calibrate the monitor to more less match my blurb books. My old monitor (an HP on a Mac Pro) seemed to be naturally orange/redish, which happened to match my books, except the books seem more saturated.

When calibrating my iMac I try to pull the right "native gamma" boxes down and to the right, to make the color warmer, but it’s still kind of far from my old computer. When I get to the target gamma, for some reason the "native" value keeps changing, so I usually stick to 2.2. Then the white point I’ve been playing between D50 and D65. D50 is warmer, which I thought might help, but it makes it more yellow than orange/red, So I think closer to D65 is better.

What should I do? push the native gamma even more down and to the right?

link different paypal accounts to each book
Web Features

Hi,
I’ve created a few books for one particular author, now other authors want me to create books for them.

My question is, can I set up paypal accounts for each author so they receive the profits directly from their own books? I don’t want to have to deal with the money coming into my account then having to resend that money to each author.

I could create different blurb accts for each author but I’d prefer not to do that so all the books are available in one blur bookstore.

Cheers,
Sione

First Book
Book Design and Imaging

Hi,

first post here and I just wanted to say how simple I am finding the software to use. I already have a 58 page book to a point where I am tempted just to order one and see what the finished results would be.  The theme is aviation related from one particular location over the past 7 years and I have a lot of images to choose from (that is proving a challenge picking and locating the ones I want)  One thing I am uncertain of is whether or not to put captions on each of the photos describing some details about the aircraft itself.

I will upload the book ‘as is’ later and see what it looks like

Lay flat option- when commeth? :)
Book Printing

I am a strong advocate of Blurb books – I like your tools and and I teach tutorials on book making in my photography group – I think you have a great combination of image quality, paper, binding, and price – But several friends are now making coffee table books with the My Publisher lay flat binding that are making me consider a change of publishers – can you give any hint on when lay flat binding will be available?

It is. I’m guessing it’s about 200 gsm.

Incorrect Credentials Error in BookSmart upload
BookSmart

Thanks, Craig. I have never uploaded from my desktop computer yet. But, I have uploaded book from my laptop. Both receive the same error. My only concer is the updated Kaspersky Antivirus. But, I turn it off during the upload process (as well as Windows Firewall). Are there any particular Proxy settings that MUST be used for the BookSmart upload?

Yes, I follow up with my suppoer rep. His second message was about his change of my credentials (again)…

Thank you,

Aliaks

Shady Shipping Prices
Ordering and Shipping

They have a shipping calculator (http://www.blurb.co.uk/shipping) – it doesn’t ask for book size or number of pages, just the quantity, country and postcode. How is that fair?

Blurb won’t get anything from me until the shipping costs change. For a private project I wanted to print 100 copies of a pocket book-sized book, 34 pages. Shipping costs – £103.99.

Er, what?!!!

Effectively that means I could order 100 copies of the largest, heaviest book with hundreds of pages and the shipping cost would be the same.

Totally ridiculous.

Blurb, your shipping arrangements may make it easier for you to manage from an admin point of view, but it absolutely unfair to your customers.

Incorrect Credentials Error in BookSmart upload
BookSmart

Hi aliaks,

Sorry to hear of this problem beginning your upload. This is usually caused by a firewall, anti-virus, or other software that may be preventing the upload from beginning in the first place.

If you’ve had success uploading before, I suggest checking to see if you’ve installed any software recently that may be causing the problem. Otherwise, I would follow up with your support rep noting that your continuing efforts to upload have failed.

We should hopefully be able to get your book uploaded one way or another!

Incorrect Credentials Error in BookSmart upload
BookSmart

Hello,

I cannot connect to my Blurb account from BookSmart (version 3.4.3.34780_en_US). I have a book to publish, but I cannot upload it. When I click on "Order" and enter credentials, I receive an error saying that my credentials are incorrect. I AM ABLE TO LOGIN TO MY ACCOUNT FROM A WEB BROWSER (but not from BookSmart). I have changed the password several times, restarted software, and restarted PC… I have also turned off the antivirus program and windows firewall. I have exported project file and imported it to BookSmart on another computer, on which I have also turned off antivirus and firewall. But I receive the same error on both PCs. I’ve also tried to login to my two separate accounts… NO LUCK!

I have submitted a support ticket. After a day of waiting I got a response which was informing me that a support person changed my credentials for me. That’s all support I got from Blurb. UNBELIAVABLE! After thousands of dollars paid to them. The text above is a copy/paste from my support request. I guess Blurb’s support people don’t read the requests. They just change credentials for everybody.

ANY THOUGHTS WOULD BE HIGHLY APPRECIATED

Previews won't load, is there a real answer?
General Interest

my issue is resolved but in case anyone is wondering, the issue with previews is on blurb’s end and has nothing to do with how I uploaded the file.

Custom book jackets (not books!)
Book Printing

I’m teaching Classics and find that the set texts (which are all Penguin Classics) become exceptionally tatty after just one read. As I have a tendency to litter my copies with notes I really don’t want to have to replace them, so I was wondering whether I could get book jackets/dust covers for them. At the minute the only way I see of doing this would be to buy an empty book & use the dust cover, which with a library of over 100 Penguins would leave me with a stack of expensive notebooks!

Ideally what I’m looking for would be hard-wearing book jackets rather than thin dust covers – I need them to add to the integrity of the books rather than just being a pretty cover.

Any thoughts as to whether this might be possible?

Dustjacket vs. Image Wrap
Book Printing

Hello mchart_1,

I’m sorry to hear your books were not what you had expected. You don’t seem to have ever contacted us at customer support regarding this issue. That’s unfortunate, as this may have simply been a print defect and we could have ordered a reprint to confirm that. You may contact us via support.blurb.com if you’d like us to look into the problem.

Regards,

Michael/Blurb Customer Support

Still no answer from Blurb Customer Support about this?  Being a Norwegian, I have planned several book titles, but if this is not looked into by Blurb/UPS, and is unanswered by them, I might have to look elsewhere…  :(
