A question for contest organizers about voting
General Interest

Thank you Kathy, that does help! If I’d seen that I would have only entered one.  Oh well, I’ll let friends know about that part.   I’ll think about which is the best book and ask them to put their votes into that one.

 Thank you again!

Quite Impressed - Just Received my Book
Ordering and Shipping

I recieved my first order yesterday of my book, As I Wander: New Zealand’s South Island.  I am quite pleased.  I was concerned, having read of the many problems listed here.  I’ have a Cafe Press shop and know that reading the forums on a POD site can give you a more negative slant on a service as people mostly post their problems, but wasn’t sure what the actual issues would be (if any).

It took a little longer to get to me than I expected it would, closer to 20 business days, but that’s outside Blurb’s control.  I had gone for the economy shipping so I’ve chosen the next best option in my order last night for my family’s Christmas gifts.

One thing I did notice is that some pages have a few tiny white ‘dust’-like spots.  This isn’t a problem for me, it doesn’t take away from the photos & they aren’t big dots nor wide-spread.  I think it’s what you’d probably get in any commercially-printed book.   I mention it because some people might consider it a flaw.

And true to what I’ve read on the forums, the pictures do print darker.  I’d expect that because I’ve printed on matte paper before (would love to have glossy if it’s ever an option).  I didn’t lighten my photos for my South Island book, and really only 1 of the images should have been lightened as it was a bit too dark for my preference.  I’ve just finished and uploaded a 2nd book.  I’ve lightened some of the photos in this one so I’ll be interested to see how they turn out when it gets here.

The finished book aside, I had a few couple with Booksmart and with ordering but Customer Support was overall helpful & haven’t had problems wiath Booksmart since the recent update.  I am looking forward to getting my 2nd copy and the Christmas gifts I’ve ordered and need to think about my next possibility!

A question for contest organizers about voting
General Interest

Hi, here’s hoping it’s ok to put this here as it’s a question about voting in the Blurb contest.  I’ve got 2 books in the contest and when voting opens I’ll be asking friends to vote for my books.  My question is will it be a "one person one vote" kind of a deal? If so, I’ll pick which book I’ve entered and ask them to vote for that one only.  If it isn’t I can ask them to vote for both.

Thank you for your help,

Alex

Ordering and Shipping

I found out about the offer when I went in to order my book.  It’s only if you order your own book and I think only if the 2 you order are the same type of cover.  If you go in to order your book it should show up.  It isn’t a link so much as something that is there when you try to order.  It says:

"Get a FREE Softcover Book!
Buy two or more of your book in Hardcover (Dust Jacket or ImageWrap) and get one free Softcover. Just add one Softcover to your order above and use the promo code: softcover during checkout."   When you click on more details you get "se the promo code: softcover during checkout.

About the Book

Edit Book Settings
Edit Book Summary

New Zealand is a diverse and beautiful country. It is a land of contrasts: of snowy mountains and fiery volcanoes, of alpine deserts and rain forests. According to the Maori this is Aotearoa, Land of the Long White Cloud. This 40 page book is a small selection of images highlighting the beauty of the South Island.

Join me on an armchair trip through this stunning scenery. Traverse the Southern Alps, take in the glacial lakes and braided rivers and step back in time to walk an abandoned gold mining town. This is not just a book, it is a journey. Come with me as I wander.

Ordering and Shipping

How many days did it end up taking from shipping to when you received your book? I’m in NZ and I’m at about 19 business days.  I don’t want to bother the Blurb staff since I chose non-trackable and I figure it’s outside their control.  I was hoping to get it in time to check it and then order a couple gifts for Christmas.  I’ve run out of time to check it first so am considering ordering blind so I can take advantage of their "buy 2 get the soft cover free" deal that ends tomorrow.

Two Prices For Same Book?
Tips and Tricks

Third attempt to post, have just typed this up and had an error, the submission form wipes itself.

I’ve checked the FAQs and Forums and didn’t find an answer to my question.

Is there a way to have two different prices for the same book? I’ve uploaded, set my price and ordered a copy of my book.  I’d like to have a copy of my book with a lower mark up and keep it private for some close friends.  Is this possible?

I’ve got the same thing in my Cafe Press shop for a couple friends who are short on cash and would like to offer my book at a reduced price for them.

If it’s not possible no big deal, I could order it, have them pay me and ship it to them, but it would be easier if I could.

 Thank you for your help,

Alex

Where's My Book?
General Interest

Same problem here.  I’ve got a customer support ticket in because I can’t get the shipping options to be able to order my book.  And I’ve noticed that my book isn’t showing in the bookstore despite being made public.  I’ve tried searching for my exact title and it’s come up as no such book.  I checked the "just published" last night after uploading and checked it tonight, searching back until I got to yesterday’s stuff.  No book.   I’ve also noticed that when I click My Public Books or My Private Books it says I don’t have any books (even when I am logged in).

I’m getting frustrated at several problems that have plagued the whole process for me (and while there is customer service, having to contact them constantly isn’t ideal).  I’ve read a lot of positive (as well as negative) feedback in the forums so I know it can work.   I’ve used Cafe Press and Zazzle so am not new to POD nor to the fact that there can be occassional hiccups in the process.   I hope this gets them out of the system and I’m able to get it all resolved.  I"ve got a second book I would like to do but not if things continue in this vein.

Help - where's the library
BookSmart

No suggestions other than to contact customer service.  I did the same thing (I was trying to create a back up of my completed book before uploading it & didn’t get a choice of where to save the backup) and had a similar problem.  Except that my Booksmart application then repeatedly crashed every time I opened it.

I’m waiting for customer service to come back with some answers.  Hopefully you’ll have good luck and they’ll be able to retrieve it for you.
