So I’m nearly finished with my huge book project for my architect client, thank goodness.

But Booksmart has proven so buggy, I’m honestly considering whether I’ll make any more books with Blurb at all—and this is after upgrading from the nearly useless 1.9.4.

If I’m not contending with ‘the spinning beach ball of death,’ waiting interminably for the software, I’m dealing with a bunch of other annoying bugs, like:

• preview mode zooms into a large, unusable size every time I click the button;
• though I’m typing white text on black pages, every single text entry defaults to black, forcing me to manually change it;
• it takes forever to switch between edit and preview mode;
• just scrolling through the page templates causes the software to hang for a minute or two.

Sigh,

This software has literally added hours to my workflow in completing this 165 page book, sheesh. Next time I sell a book project to a client, I’ll have to think long and hard about my vendor.

Blurb has been great in many ways—publication, finishing, customer service have all been a pleasure, but I’ve just about had it with their crappy software.

me too, Jenny… I sold blurb to an important client who is very excited about the books I’m building for them—photographed a dozen homes for this book, a lot of work has gone into this, and now the software goes belly up.

 I don’t know who was behind this software release, but they really screwed up.

hm, 1.9.3 seems to not handle image files as well in previews and thumbnails… I get lots of blank thumbs and "loading…"  never happened before in previous versions…

I’m also getting some odd, inappropriate zooming, when I change page backgrounds.
