Selling Books in Canada
Web Features
that’s true, mC, it is possible to sell via Amazon, but once you factor in shipping costs from Blurb, it’s not likely anyone but your mother will buy a book.

Couple of problems I noticed making my first book
BookSmart
yes, I have had the same experience. Best bet at this time is to reveiw every page once you have settled on the final layout. Otherwise adding a page can knock things off quite a bit.

Book Order updates
General Interest
Allison, I am in the same boat as Ruggero. I do agree with you about the use of the fora, but when I asked Order Support on September 4 whether my books had been sent to the printer, and what their current status is, here is what I got back: Hi there,
We will get these books to you as quickly as possible. Our estimated ship date is sometimes eclipsed during unexpectedly busy times. Our print partners are working as fast as they can to bind, finish and ship you a quality book. I’m sorry that in this case it is taking a couple extra days, and hope that the quality of the book you receive helps mitigate this inconvenience. I did not consider this to be a specific reply to my questions, particularly since the website information I have merely says "processing". So I replied last night: I appreciate your reply, but I am still not clear on the current status of these two book orders. When will the books ship? Thanks again. There has been no further response. In my case, I am working in a small, time critical window and the unfulfilled orders of August 26 and August 28 are starting to pinch on my end. regards, FG

'set your price' for EU citizens
Web Features
the issue is relevant to Canada and of course other countries too. I find it odd that Amazon does not have any difficulty issuing checks to clients no matter where they happen to live. Perhaps Blurb should take a closer look at the Amazon model.

International sales
General Interest
for what its worth, the US and Canada have a tax treaty, and it is zero rated. So there should be no problem to just issue cheques/PayPal deposits on that front. I’m pretty sure the EU has a similat tax treaty with similar provisions.

The Announce Function
General Interest
I have not been able to find any detail on the operation of the "announce" function in the FAQs or the forums. I am specifically wondering if the email that is sent goes to all recipients in a way that exposes everyone’s address – which some people are sensitive about. Also, if the book remains "private" how do the invited access the order page? All help appreciated – thanks. FG

Postage - who wants an option to send books via the local postal service
General Interest
book – 21.95; postage 20.84. This is not a sustainable business model. It means the product is not going to be competitive, and that is the bottom line. Blurb needs to set up some other options, probably through the USPSm and its media mailing option—which is much more reasonable.

Review/Proof Book
BookSmart
others may be able to offer more, but here’s my take: 1. You can replace/delete the Blurb logo by clicking on it and agreeing to the statement presented. If you change your mind, you can change it back. 2. To show a client a "proof" copy, you will have to order one copy from Blurb. Your only other option is to show the client the production display – ie show him the Booksmart version on your ‘puter. hope this helps.

it’s not rocket science, folks. LOTS of companies are selling products and services in Canada from US sites. The Canadian market is yours for the taking—if you resolve this issue soon. If not, there are players emerging in the domestic market that will eat your potential share. Hurry up!
