I had that code, too, and it wouldn’t work for me, either.

Color problems with "Import"

PS again: I should also say that I have already referred to the FAQ on this issue, to no avail.

Color problems with "Import"
BookSmart

I want to be able to work on my books on two computers, my desktop and laptop. BOTH MONITORS HAVE BEEN CALIBRATED. I have exported my book to a CD so I could import it to my laptop, but it imports with the dreaded purple coloration (quite heavy and dark) throughout the entire book. I tried importing from the CD back to my desktop to make sure that the file was not corrupted, and it imported perfectly. I copied the file from the CD to my laptop hard drive and imported from there; same problem. I exported again from the original (good) file and tried over; same problem. Both OS are the same—WinXP. Any suggestions?

Starting layout with number of pages
Tips and Tricks

Is it possible to begin a layout by specifying how many pages it will contain rather than having to add them through individual clicks? I am planning another book, but as this one will have 200-300 pages, I’d like to be able to add them all at once.

How many Books have You sold?
General Interest

I love looking at the previews in the Bookstore, especially for imaginative layout ideas. Some of the books are so enticing that I’d really like to see ALL the pictures, but I don’t know that I’d break down and buy copies. Have folks here bought any of the books unless they had a vested interest? (Such as knowing the author/photographer.)

PS, Brian:

The text info about the photos of Grand Prismatic explaining the incredible natural colors unfortunately doesn’t appear in the preview, as I used the cover flaps for that info.

Brian-

Yep, I just uploaded my second proof version. It will be fascinating to compare it to #1 after it arrives. Then I will be in better shape to place my bulk order. If you’re interested in seeing the preview of #2, search for "Yellowstone Visions." The HueyPro is fabulous—much, much better than the Colorvision that I had before I started doing Blurb.

Thank you both for your help. (And I agree with you about the coffee, Brian!) What I meant by a filter in PS was one of the Nik 2.0 adjustment filters/plug-ins. But I agree that it is a worrisome thing to try in this situation. I keep my monitor calibrated automatically every few minutes with a HueyPro. Test prints look fine. I’m going to bump the contrast just a bit more on the Blurb files and run another proof book. Mostly I’m quite pleased with the book, and this is a relatively-minor issue, and I’ll be tweaking it considerably less than I feared I would need to after reading some of the results people received. Thanks again.

Actually, I incorporated those tips and ICC in the book long before sending it to print and have been an avid reader of these forums all along.

I’m guessing it’s the matte printing that took the golden light from my photos. I’m a bit afraid to bump it up with a filter in PS in the attempt to compensate in the next proof of my book. Would this help, or since it’s still a matte process, would it only muddy things up in the print?

 Scottyb:

I just replaced my Colorvision calibration unit (which never worked satisfactorily for me) with the Huey Pro, which I love. Amazon has it fir $97, shipping (US) included.

Can the HP5000 ICC profile be downloaded to Elements, or is it possible to choose various color profiles only in the full PS version?

Adding page numbers
BookSmart

Thank you—that is very helpful. And it has the added bonus for me that there are guide lines I can use for photo placement, almost as good as having rulers in the program!

Adding page numbers
BookSmart

How can I have page numbers show in the full bleed page layout? Will I have to add them individually in Photoshop and submit jpg layouts instead of doing the layout in Booksmart?
