Weekly page visits skyrocket?
Web Features

Hi,

All of a sudden this week, my book’s weekly page visits according to the metrics page have quintupled compared to the highest previous record, and the week is only on its second day. Should I be happy or is this happening to other people? I haven’t done anything new lately to promote my book so I’m wondering if this is a glitch of some sort.

Adjusting left and right margins
BookSmart

I am just about to finish what I hope will be the final draft of my first book, a book of poetry.

For nearly all the pages (all except the first few anyway), I am using the one column, text-only template, putting one poem on each page. I have all the poems in the book now and am rearranging them into the order I want. Viewing the book in facing page mode, I drag the mini pages in the bar at the bottom, rearranging them until they are in the order I want.

While I was doing this, I noticed that some of the left and right margins differ. On some pages, the left margin is narrower and the right margin is wider and on other pages, vice versa. I would except this, if the wider margins were to the interior of the book (to allow for more space for the binding). However, this is not always the case. As near as I can tell, BookSmart may not be readjusting the margins after I rearrange the pages. Is there any way I can adjust the margins myself, so that the wider margin is always on the inside of the page? Otherwise, many of the margins will look misaligned.

Thanks,

Brian

Alignment of ornaments on end page
BookSmart

Thank you for your response, Jeremy. I tried eliminating the ornaments from the end page, but could not find a way to remove them once they were already in there. When I try to click on the header or footer on the end page either nothing happens or if I click in the right spot, I get the message about how to remove the Blurb logo.

Anyway, it is a very minor issue. I won’t worry about it.

Alignment of ornaments on end page
BookSmart

I am working on my first book, a book of poetry. I have added centered ornaments to each page, in both the header and the footer. In doing so, I have discovered that the ornaments on the end page are not centered in the same manner that the Blurb logo is. Apparently, the logo is centered on the page, whereas the ornaments are centered in their respective text fields, which are slightly offset, I imagine, to accommodate for binding space. I find the different methods for centering somewhat esthetically disappointing, since it makes the ornaments or the logo appear to not be centered in any way. I have tried to figure out how to edit the header and the footer on the end page and failed. Whenever I try to edit the header nothing happens and when I try to edit the footer, instead I get the question about removing the logo. Is there any way to edit the header and footer on the end page either so I can get them to center with the logo or to remove the ornaments entirely from just the end page?

how to make/change layout
Tips and Tricks

That’s literally true as far as editing Blurb’s layouts go, but you can “make your own layout” by creating a layout in another program, saving it as graphics file, and then copying it into one of the layouts in Booksmart that allows you to type text over an image.

Color of backgrounds in 1.9
BookSmart

Well, I think I can partially answer my own question. Apparently it’s assumed that the pages with text should always have lighter colored backgrounds so that the text shows up better. However, what if I’ve chosen a light color that I like? It would still be nice to be able to set the background to precisely the color I choose, instead of having it lightened “for my benefit”.

Color of backgrounds in 1.9
BookSmart

I’m trying to customize the background color of pages in a book in 1.9. When I get it the color I want, and apply it to all pages, it comes out right in the first three pages (title page, copyright page, and quote page) and much paler in all subsequent pages. Is this supposed to happen this way, and if so, is there a way I can apply the same background color to ALL pages?

Default poetry book layout in 1.9
General Interest

I’m a bit baffled by this layout. Why is the book title in large type on every other page in addition to the small print in the page’s header?
