Received the wrong book!!!
Ordering and Shipping
Well, it happened again! I ordered an additional ten copies of my architecture-related book and smack dab in the middle of the bunch was Appalachian Waters: 2007 all dressed up in my dust jacket. Not the top book, not the bottom book, either of which might imply an error at the beginning or end of a production run, but right in the middle of my ten books! The first time I ordered a Blurb book it contained Waubonsee: The Flint Ridge Hills or something similar to that. That one, too, came wrapped in the dust jacket for my book on architecture. What is going on here? Really, can Blurb’s quality control on production processes be SO bad that this would happen twice in four orders?
While I like appearance of the book I created, I must treat Blurb as an unreliable supplier, since they are unable to successfully manage the business process of printing and packing books correctly.

Received the wrong book!!!
Ordering and Shipping
dduha987 wrote, “bwelty – did you ever receive your correct book – or did you just get a credit?”
I did not get the book, rather a credit, expiring in one month, for the amount of my original order. So, I can (and will) order to the amount of the credit. My order was a one-unit test (as recommended by Blurb), but I needed twenty copies by a date certain and the errant delivery forced me to order twenty copies without having seen a copy of the book. Ouch!
I did receive the twenty copies today. They look fine. I’m happy with the dust jacket, the binding, and the quality of the printing and paper stock. The key for me was rooting around in the forums to learn how to get my monitor settings to match the color gamut of the printers Blurb uses and the paper stock they print to. That way, I could edit the levels, contrast, saturation, etc of the photos with reasonable confidence that what I saw on my monitor would be a good approximation of what I’d see in print. As a result, the 102 photographs turned out as I had hoped and expected.
Net, I’m OK with Blurb. After a bit of a rocky start. I’d order again.

Received the wrong book!!!
Ordering and Shipping
A similar thing happened to my order. In my case, the dust jacket was mine, but the book itself was someone else’s. I emailed Blurb’s order support and received an acknowledgement, but nothing approaching an apology, for the error. Subsequently, I was issued a UPS return form to send back the erroneously shipped book and an expiring credit for a store purchase rather than a refund.
Blurb’s production and customer service processes deserve more management attention and quality control. Not the worst online purchase experience I’ve ever had, but I certainly wouldn’t consider their business processes as good.

Printing Issues
BookSmart
I’m using a Mac with version 1.9.1.20466 and am having exactly the same issue. I’m eager to order, but want to follow Blurb’s best practices and print out a proof copy first. Help!
