I am delighted!
Book Printing

Ms Hays – you need to start a separate thread for your post – you will get better response that way.  I suggest that you watch the tutorials available on this site for the information you are looking for.  Be aware that any pages you print on your printer from the booksmart program will have a watermark on them and are used primarily for review.

Replace photos after fixing them
BookSmart

Unfortunately you will have to upload your corrected photo’s and replace one at a time.  Booksmart does not recognize changes made in a different program.  In the future you may want to print sample pages on your home printer before you upload to Blurb.    Sorry I know what a bummer this has to be for you.

Holiday Photo Album
Tips and Tricks

If you are wanting your holiday book to look like a scrapbook I would suggest you check out the numerous websites that offer digital scrapbook pages that you can download and then add your pictures.  Once you’ve designed your scrapbook pages (make sure they are in jpeg format) you can import them into booksmart choosing the correct template or design your own that will work with the page you created in another program, such as photoshop.

Best Font/Layout to use?
Book Design and Imaging

I normally use nothing smaller than 12 for my font size – anything smaller can be difficult to read.  However, the rest of your questions are really a matter of personal preference.  I think once you start making your book and look at your preview you will be able to make decisions on your own personal likes and dislikes.

Tax form 1099
General Interest

Blurb does send out 1099 and they also collect your SS# or Fed ID number whenever you sell your books for profit.

But, after re-checking the FAQ’s you are correct they are not required unless you make over $600.  Thanks for pointing that, now I can take one more "to-do" off my list.  LOL

YoUr FeedBack Needed
General Interest

Hi – I thought your photo’s were beautiful.  I personanlly like the black background because it draws your eye to the light of the photograph more than a white background, although if I were doing it I may have put a thin border around the photo.  I agree with rrusty that some captions or text would be nice, especially if you are selling it as a coffee table book.  Your photo’s may make someone want to see the place taken in person so it would be nice to know what and where.  I agree the cover is great!  Overall good job!  I’m not an expert, but I know what I like and what makes me want to turn the page to see what’s next.

Better design templates? Looking for creativity in books....please HELP!
Book Design and Imaging

You might want to purchase a photo editing program such as Adobe photoshop elements, that will give you an opportunity to edit your photo’s and also make page layouts that you can import into booksmart in jpeg format.  I’ve also used borderbund products to design my projects – like Printmaster – it’s a little less expensive and you are able to create designs with that and also import in jpeg format.  Hope that helps

Blog to book - audio version
Tips and Tricks

I thought I’d share a little tidbit that I have discovered.  Maybe some of you have already discovered this while working with your blogs.  You can add a free service to your blogs that will read your blog outloud for you.  It is called "odiogo".  Now what is really fun is that you can "stream" the audio version of your blog to your computer and burn it to a CD.   I thought it would be a great add to include it in my blogger books.  The reason I was so excited about my discovery is that my father is blind so he is unable to read my blogs – now I can share my blog books with both parents – one in book form and add the audio version to the front of my book with a slip cover.

WOO-HOO!  Blurb customer service rocks!!  They finally figured out a very simple fix for me and now all my books have re-appeared and booksmart is no longer crashing.  I hesitate to share the fix only because it may be unique to my situation.  Thank you Michael at Blurb for your persistance in solving my problem!

Cannot open my book backup.
BookSmart

Thanks Tony, I did try your suggestion and actually thought I had resolved it, however, booksmart still wants to crash.  I’ve un-installed the program 3 times and re-installed but for some reason it just keeps crashing.  At this point I’d just be happy if the program wouldn’t crash so that I could start over and begin a new project.  I have contacted customer service – and they’ve been working really hard at solving the problem, so hopefully they will figure it out.  I’d sure hate to loose my ability to use booksmart.  Just seems like there must be something that I’m missing in the migration or something that migration picked up that could be causing the crash.  I never had problems in XP with the program.  I did make copies of the books on CD, maybe I’d have better luck importing from those?

Cannot open my book backup.
BookSmart

I’m having the same issue.  Recently purchased new computer with windows 7 – I have migrated all my books with a Belkin Migration cable to my new computer.  The books are there but I cannot reconnect them to my booksmart..  Plus when I try booksmart crashes.  Blurb is working on the problem with me so hopefully they wil figure out why.  I’ve tried opening my book files through the document itself and windows asks me what program I want to open it in, but booksmart does not show as one of my available programs, not sure why?

If anyone has a suggestion that has worked for them I’d love to know.  Otherwise I’ll update when Blurb is able to resolve my problem.  Is there a problem with booksmart working with windows 7 that anyone is aware of?

Annaberry – Love the pictures you posted on your blog – I have one suggestion – don’t wait for people to tell you what they want you to write about – I think if you just talk about your travel experience you will start drawing people into reading your blog.  Looking forward to hearing about your travels…..

Photo reproduction
Book Printing

I agree with you regarding scanning b&w photo’s in color – you get a much better quality scan and greater quality to the greys.  I too created a book of old family photos from the late 1800’s, early 1900’s - it can take many hours to restore these old photos – but well worth it in the end.  I also like to colorize the photographs to give new life to them.

Putting multiple blog postings on one page
Tips and Tricks

To add short posts all you need to do is drag the post to the page you want it to appear on.  Which is the easiest way.  Or you could also "copy" and "paste" it to the page, but then you have to remember to delete the one you copied.

It would be of great benefit to Blurb user’s if the newsletter was available through this website and not just through email.  I receive the newsletter, however, I have found that my copy never has had any promo codes – but others do receive the same newsletter with promo’s – still trying to figure out why?!
