No title on book (hardcover) as opposed to on the book jacket
BookSmart

I just received my first blurb book, and on the whole I am happy with it.

But – I was shocked to find that there is no title and author shown on the outside of the actual book. Both the front and the spine are blank. I did not expect my bookcover photo to be on the book itself, but I did expect to see the title and author.

Yes, the slipcover is nice. But don’t you know that often that is eventually tossed, leaving the bare book to sit on a shelf?

Are there any plans to change this behavior? I like the option of getting a hardcover book, but without any identification on the outside of the book I think I need to rethink that and perhaps change to softcover books.

Enhancement request - allow author to specify default font
BookSmart

BookSmart includes the ability to specify a font for any text area.

Unfortunately, the font defaults to Georgia, not my choice. So every time I enter text on a new page or in a new text area I need to specify the font that I want to use again.

There should be an option to set a default font to be used within a book.

Request to allow resizing of photo boxes on pages
BookSmart

BookSmart contains a reasonable number of page layouts for photos, but in many cases your layouts do not quite meet my needs.

Yes, I’m aware that I could use a program like PhotoShop to format my pages, but I don’t want to do that. I want to use the BookSmart tool to combine photos and text and to build my book.

I’d like to see the ability to resize the photo boxes on the standard BookSmart layout pages.

Is this a possibility for a short-term change? Or for a longer term enhancement?

Auto cropping and resizing
BookSmart

I’m also interested in this.

The default behavior of fill image area (crop) is not what I want – ever.

I would like to be able to set my own default (in my case, align center with no crop) that will remain in effect until (and unless) I request a different option.

Image name and date taken are not preserved from EXIF of photo
BookSmart

I am working with photos retrieved from SmugMug.

I pulled in a subcategory, which contained 5 galleries (or albums). I can look at all of the photos at once, or I can look at them by album. That’s good. But – I can’t sort them in any way that is useful to me.

BookSmart has two sort options that should work for me – date taken, and name. Neither give me anything usable because the values that BookSmart uses for both of those fields are garbage.

I have no idea where the date taken comes from. I’ll attach images that show the date taken for a single image from BookSmart and from SmugMug. The SmugMug-shown date taken of 2007-09-21 is correct. The BookSmart date taken of October 4, 2007 is not.

The name that shows for a photo in BookSmart should be the file name from the EXIF of the photo. Instead it is some generated name that is a combination of SmugMug’s internally generated name (used as a unique identifier, but not really usable by a human brain) and some other characters that I don’t recognize.

As a result, I can’t sort my photos in any usable fashion when building a book. This makes the process take much longer than it should.

blurb info about photo from SmugMug:

info about photo from BookSmart, incorrect dates, bad file name

SmugMug EXIF, correct information:

EXIF from smugmug

What are the chances of getting this corrected? And soon?

These problems make building a blurb book very painful.

 Thanks.
