Book will not open in Booksmart any more - wants 'updated' version of Bo...
BookSmart

I have been working on a new book for ages and suddenly when I come to open it up comes the message that that book was generated on a newer version of Booksmart and to download the latest version (actually that does not make sense…if it was generated on a newer version it implies I have to latest version!)
I any even I have downloaded the newest version and still the book will not open with the same message coming up.
I am using a Mac
Any ideas anyone – I was deperate to take advantage of Blurb’s 25% offer and have it published today
Thanks
peter

PLEASE make BookSmart 1.9 available for downloading
BookSmart

It beggars belief that any company can operate in this fashion. Yet again, another version of Booksmart is launched….and it simply doesn’t work as it should. Booksmart has been unstable from day one, and all we have had is one update after another, all of which do little more than the last version. Is it an American thing?....a California thing?.....a CEO thing?.....how is it possible that a company can continue to provide such relentlessly appalling service? Yes, the end result is excellent…but it seems to me it has little to do with the self-satisfied staff in San Francisco who blindly continue to churn out pretentious gobbledigook on their blogs and award meaningless "prizes" for their more gullible customers…..and more (indeed almost all) to do with Blurb’s independant and hard-working printers around the US and in Europe. Talk about Fiddling while Rome burned….here there is a veritable symphony orchestra warming up.

THE ZOOM AND CROP FUNCTION
Book Design and Imaging

Just to clarify…in ‘edit’ mode, the original frame’s outline still appears in grey but in ‘preview’ mode that outline disappears. Is that what is actually happening !

THE ZOOM AND CROP FUNCTION
Book Design and Imaging

Hello! Could someone possibly tell me whether if I use the Crop/Zoom slide to reduce a photo to the point where the yellow "not enough resolution" icon (or whatever it is called!) disappears, the "frame" the photo was originally in (which theoretically will now be larger than the photo on the page) will show an outline if the whole page BACKGROUND IS IN BLACK!  The preview function shows JUST the photo (which is what I want) and no "empty" space which might denote the edge of the original frame, but is this actually what is happening? Many thanks – Peter

Could the preview feature be improved?
Web Features

I understand that in the interests of selling books, the preview feature is limited to 15 pages. I assume there are other reasons as well, like bandwidth etc.

However, as people get used to making books, and thus make larger and more diverse books, would it not be an idea to provide the 15 page preview as at present, but then provide the rest of the pages in the form of non enlargeable thumbnails, so a prospective buyer can geta better idea of what the whole book looks like?

I considered buying someone else’s book today, but am a little loathe as I cant really see what I am buying.

And yes, I know Amazon don’t offer this service, but there one is buying published books which one assumes to be to a pretty high standard.

What is happening at Blurb ?
General Interest

I have recently had a run in with Blurb after a book I ordered didnt arrive after 3 weeks. All sorted now.. but it was like pulling teeth.

But with so many people in the same boat…all expressing, with increasing levels in incredulity and frustration that the responses from Blurb Customer Service were almost comically inept, it led me to look at some of the other Forum topics. It strikes me that there really are a lot of people who seem pretty unhappy with the service they are experiencing

When Blurb started up it was with so much goodwill, as what they provided was almost unique. Now it is no longer so unique, yet Blurb seem to just accept that the Forum - after all, their "public" face which anyone can log into - contains so much adverse comment about their company and the service they provide.

Yes there will always be those that complain for the sake of it, or want to fight the system, but the vast majority of comments seem to be from articulate individuals with a genuine gripe about something.

If my company had a Forum with so much negative comment on it, I would want to commit murder amongst my staff !! Metaphorically that is! It leads me to wonder whether the CEO, who seems SUCH a dynamic and engaged individual from the videos I have seen of her, has any idea what is being written about her company.

Is it me, or is the Blurb software a little unpredictable ?
Book Design and Imaging

Blurb has to be one of the best things on the net, but am I alone in finding the layout process a nightmare sometimes. if I want to add a page, sometimes I simply cant (it wont allow me), if I want to chose a new page layout for an existing page, again it wont let me, if I want to zoom into to some text, the cursor darts all over the place, and when proof reading, the page zooms in and out more or less at random ? Any ideas – Thanks –  Peter

Naked Pics in Erotica Book
Book Design and Imaging

The books are printed by people who will giggle and laugh at, and probably steal your photos and put them on Youtube, just to piss you off !!

Is it Egotisdistical. As if you even need to ask….. you KNOW it is !!

BUT… if you consider yourself "avant garde" (that’s french!) ... which clearly you do….give it a go and see what happens. Remember what happened to Burt Reynolds…..

UK MEMBERS
General Interest

If you live in the UK and order a product from what is essentially a US company, you are doing very well indeed at the moment, given the exchange rate and the fact that it is unlikely you are being charged import tax and VAT. The information re selling ones books seems perfectly clear to me, as does the fact that shipping offers are only for US based customers.

My only query is…. what on earth is an "intuitive ordering experience" ?

Have a Good Day
