When you open a book from "My Books" you will see an edit button up by the the green bar that says "summary".  If you click the edit button there should be a drop down for category.

What I uploaded doesn't look like what I designed!
Ordering and Shipping

They did that to me too.  I uploaded a book that I thought had a pink background.  The next day I looked at it on the website book preview from work and it was gray.   Unfortunately I had already ordered the book.  At home it still looked pink even on their website.  Turned out I need to color calibrate my monitor.

The way I fixed it was to backup a copy of my book and upload it to another computer that we have here in the house.  I knew it would work because the book looked gray on that computer even though it looked pink on mine.  I was then able to make the book look like I wanted and then uploaded it again to blurb.

It doesn’t sound like you have the same problem though since you can see the weird colors on the same computer that you see the colors you actually wanted.

Good luck!

Can't tell a book by it's cover.
Tips and Tricks

I have three of the same books uploaded into Blurb.  In blurb on the website I edited the details of the book and called them different titles ie. Book Title (gray version).  It doesn’t change the cover of the book at all but I can tell the difference when I order the book.

Why can’t you fix it and re-upload it?

Unable to select photos from 'my computer'
Book Design and Imaging

If you haven’t already I’d report the bug to blurb.

The only other thing I can think of is to try putting the pictures in a different folder and see if it likes that folder better.  Good luck!

Unable to select photos from 'my computer'
Book Design and Imaging

Did you also download files from flickr or somewhere else?  Are the photos on your computer on the local drive or are they partitioned or on a network?  I believe there is a known issue.  I was having the same problem and searched the forum for flickr photo bug or something like that and got the workaround.

bulk shipping
General Interest

I paid $20 for one book and then ordered five books and paid $40.  So I would guess the answer is yes.

That’s an awesome video.  Thank you for posting it.  I love how you can see the pages turn and get a feel for the book.  Beautiful job.

Booksmart encountered a technical glitch and needs to close now.....
BookSmart

When this was happening to me I noticed that there was a pattern to my actions that would always cause the "glitch".  I then searched the forums for that problem and found that it was a known issue with an existing work around.

I work in software though so maybe I’m at an advantage.

Printed proof does not look the same as my preview version
General Interest

Here was my response to the customer service person who told me there was nothing they could do…

I did proof it but as we both know, all the proofing in the world wouldn’t have mattered on my computer.

You may want to state somewhere that monitors need color calibrating or something.  I attended the webinar and you people make it look so simple.  I’ve read the forums and I’ve seen the disappointment.  I am not alone here.

The thing is, you are in a service organization.  Even when it is somehow the client’s fault there are things that you are capable of doing that would make the experience feel better.  You don’t have to take responsibility for the problem or for my financial loss but you could…

1.  respond sooner and with a bit more empathy than "we see gray".
2.  Apologize.  I think you did that here in response #3.  It should have been done in response #1.
3.  Throw me a bone.  Something.  Offer to cover shipping.  Give me a discount.  For chrissakes I’m dropping $500 with you.  You could do something so I don’t feel like it’s a total loss.
4.  Make me believe you value my business.
5.  Don’t tell me a ticket can’t be reopened. (this last because in their response it stated that " If this issue is not resolved to your satisfaction, you may reopen it within the next 0 days.")

Printed proof does not look the same as my preview version
General Interest

I had trouble with my background.  I chose a light pink background behind photos and scans.  It appeared wonderful in preview mode.  When I printed I didn’t see my pink background but I was definitely printing in color because my scans and photos looked just fine.  I was thinking the same thing that lkb-28 stated that it had something to do with the theme because it looked great on screen.

Unfortunately for me, I ordered the book.  My background is actually gray.  Blurb states that my monitor needs calibrating.  In my case the printed copy was more accurate than what I showed in preview mode.  Blurb has washed their hands of me and I am out $100.

I’d be careful to get confirmation from blurb before you spend money that the book will print like you want it to.

Good luck.

Background color not the same
Book Printing

Update:  No further response from blurb customer service.  I imported my book onto another computer and sure enough it show gray on that computer not pink.  All of my photographs and scans look the same between computers.  I’m not sure what’s going on here or how to fix it.  Future books cannot be done on my computer that is clear until someone has an idea on how to fix this problem.

I fixed the book on the other computer and uploaded the corrected book to blurb.  I also ordered a copy of the fixed book.  I need it here by December 15th so I ordered it without hearing from blurb on the unwanted gray book.  I notified them within hours of ordering.  Not much business could have been done by 7am on a Monday morning when the notification was sent.  My fingers are still crossed that blurb will help me out here.

I still need to upload a third version of this book and order three copies of that but my budget is $100 over due to the gray book.

Anyone have any ideas on why pictures and scans look the same between computers but booksmart colors appear incorrectly on one computer and not another?

Need Help With Page Background Color In Booksmart versus Print - Anyone?
Book Printing

At first I didn’t think we were having the same problem but maybe we are.  Of course I just posted separately.  Oh well.  I guess it’s because I thought mine was so blatantly off.

I’m going to be posting screen shots soon.  Hopefully someone will have some answers.

Background color not the same
Book Printing

I’m working in version 1.9.2.  In preview mode and in the application, the color that I chose was very clearly pink.  When I saw the pdf 15 page preview on the blurb website it is clearly gray.

My very brief response from customer service was that they show I chose gray.  Not very helpful.

How am I supposed to continue to make books if what we see on the preview is so different?  The book that I worked on for hours and hours looks like crap to me now.  All the freshness disipates when it’s gray and I’m very disappointed.  There are many more books I want to make/order and don’t feel safe moving forward.

Has anyone else had this issue?
