A little confused here!
Book Printing

Jim: If you use the Booksmart software, you should soft-proof to the HP Indigo profile but assign (or convert if using a different colorspace) sRGB to the soft-proofed images. Booksmart expects that all images submitted will be in the sRGB colorspace.

If you are using the PDF to Book approach, it is recommended that you actually convert to CMYK.

Excellent Service
Book Printing

Today, I received my test copy of a new 12X12, premium paper dust-cover photo book. Overall, I’d rate the product as excellent, with one potential concern:

1. Processing and shipping were very fast. I uploaded the book on November 1 and had it in my hands less than a week later.
2. Color results are superb. I used the CMYK soft-proofing workflow with Bonsai’s color profile for the HP Indigo press.
3. The full bleed cover is darker and has more contrast than the same image reproduced in the book’s interior. I assume this is due to using a different printer and one that was only in hailing distance of the color profile used. Still, quite adequate.
4. Typography is very crisp.
5. The binding seems a tad weak. It creaks when opening the book. I’ll be interested in seeing how it holds up for the long haul.

Overall, an excellent job by Blurb.

How to prevent photo resizing?
BookSmart

Thank you all for the info and thanks to Lee too for his groundwork on this. Hopefully, this can be incorporated in the next iteration of Booksmart. (It really is important for image quality.)

How to prevent photo resizing?
BookSmart

The older versions of Booksmart used to allow placing a photo in a too-big container without resizing or scaling the image to fit the container size. This seems to have been lost in version 1.99???

Since I sharpen for specific pixel dimensions I really do not want the program to arbitrarily resize the image. I’d rather choose a slightly too large container and keep the image at 100% size.

Is there any way to have Booksmart honor this?

Thanks in advance for any help.
