Version 2.9 Keeps Quitting
BookSmart

Hello,
Update on my problems on a Mac. After all those problems, I tried again on the Oct 5. This time, it was stable and I was able to finish the book. I did nothing to fix the problem. It simply didn’t re-occur. Really weird.

Version 2.9 seems better
BookSmart

When it works, I’d agree that it is smoother. BUT, it is crashing constantly on my Mac. In the past three days, it has crashed 23 times.

Blurb BookSmart® Version 2.9 is ready for download
BookSmart

Quoting from Blurb’s notice of the availability of this new software (above in this thread) : “- This version also crushes some pesky bugs that caused crashes more times than we’d like to admit.”

If it did that, it simultaneously created what I consider to be new, fatal bugs…..at least on a Mac.

My experience with this new version is that it seems to be unusable because of bugs. I strongly suggest you keep using your prior versions till this gets fixed. I downloaded it onto my Mac and started another photo book. After a day of working OK, it started crashing. Customer Support sent me to a 3rd party site???? to download it again, which I did. Worked OK for a day, and then has crashed 23 times in the past 3 days of trying to use it. I’ve sent my error log and error report to them and my case has been referred to Tech Specialists.

My prior experiences with the earlier versions have been pretty positive. This has been an absolute nightmare.

I’d strongly advise AGAINST using this new version. Stick with the old one till this one is trashed and fixed.

I’m on a Mac OS 10.6.4. Downloaded the new version and started another photo book. Worked OK first day, then crashed repeatedly on the next day. Customer Support sent me to a third party site to download and reinstall it again. This worked fine for a day, then in the next three days, it has crashed 23 times. I’ve sent them my error log and error report and my case has been referred to “tech specialists”.

I also just installed it and started a new book (my 6th). Crashed three times before I could finish an edited format title page. And before the crashes, I kept getting Clipped Text warnings in text boxes easily large enough to hold the text.

This is a very BAD start for your “improved” update. I think you should consider allowing people to download OLD versions that were stable. I’m afraid I deleted mine before I downloaded 2.9.

Page Design Software Suggestions?
PDF to Book

I’m looking for suggestions for page design software for pdf to blurb photo books. I mostly want to do simple layouts with chapter headers and page number footers. White pages with images placed, sized and cropped as I wish. Cropping within the program would be plus. Text boxes placed and sized as I wish. I can’t afford any of the expensive full Pro software like InDesign. I’m on a Mac. I use Photoshop and Lightroom.

So far, I’m aware of Apple’s Pages that probably would work. Any other suggestions?
thanks
Brad

Page Numbering
Book Design and Imaging

Doing my first book. I’m about done, but have just noticed that I didn’t get page numbers on all pages. When I look closely, I think I’ve figures out that not all of the picture and text page formats have footers. I’ve used a number of those. Is that the problem? Is there a work around?

One other question about file formats
Book Design and Imaging

Once I’m using an image in Booksmart, is there a way to determine it’s file format?

Image File Formats--What does Blurb Support?
Book Design and Imaging

I’m doing my first book. I’ve imported psd (photoshop native format) files (er, ah, .......at least that’s what I think I did), They seem to show up fine while I’m designing the book. But I’ve searched high and low to see whether psd will actually work and I can’t find anything. I’d think in their Tech FAQS area, Blurb would directly say….”Blurb ONLY supports the following FILE FORMATS” Am I just missing it somewhere?
thanks
