Urgent - Gamut warning and color correction question
Book Design and Imaging

Use adjustment layers such as color balance etc.
Make an adjustment for a specific color or area, then invert the mask.
With the mask active, paint in just the areas you want to change with a white brush.
Do the same thing with a curves adjustment layer and modify separate channels.

Print Quality
Book Printing

From this link; http://www.blurb.com/b3info

“CC Profile specially calibrated to the Blurb back-end. This ICC profile enables soft proofing of your images to ensure that what you see is what you will get in your printed Blurb books.”

Why, would you charge extra for this?

Printing quality of my book.. Check out the video
Book Printing

Nice photos but it looks like the same kind of dark, too much contrast, printing issues that I have experienced.

First book. My review.
Book Design and Imaging

Just got the revised version of my book reviewed above.
Unfortunately, even after adjusting the photos they are still dark.
I noticed that the same text color was much darker which suggests an inconsistency in printing that also may have nullified my photo adjustments.

The images are not very clear.
The cover is again the best part of the book.

Conclusion:
I will not be ordering more books.
Let me know when the pages match the quality of the cover.
Thanks.

iphoto vs. Blurb quality
Book Printing

I have made a few books with iPhoto 7 (‘08).
The quality is similar. I prefer the BookSmart software despite the as yet, unresolved text bugs.
The color on my Blurb book that featured photos of artwork, as opposed to actual photographs, was more accurate.
I assume this is due to soft proofing in Photoshop with the available HP printer profile.
I also prefer the glossy cover on the blurb book.
Having never printed books with hundreds of pages, I can’t comment on the construction of the binding.

Size of files ????
Book Design and Imaging

Yes, you want the original scans to be high quality. Like 16 bit tiffs.
But when you save the final copies from Photoshop as jpgs, the file size will be much smaller.

Paper Type and Blurb logo
Book Design and Imaging

Thanks for looking, David.

Totally disagree about the logo.
You can barely see my signature on paintings and collectors actually want it signed otherwise the painting is less authentic and valuable.
No such situation exists with these books.
If they were handmade individually by a craftsman, using archival materials, that would be different.

To me, the logo is not discrete. That bright blue on a black background stands out like a sore thumb and looks cheap.
That’s why I pay to remove it.

If you would like a direct analogy consider Apple’s iPhoto books.
For a long time they included their logo on the inside back cover.
They got enough requests that with the current sofware you can choose to delete it.
AT NO CHARGE.

“Plus, they lose the advertising value of the logo.”
Impossible to verify.
I think the positive PR gained by removing this surcharge would outweigh any alleged loss of advertising.

“but for them the logic is unassailable”
Yes in terms of collecting an extra $10.

Paper Type and Blurb logo
Book Design and Imaging

They phrase it like it’s some custom feature.
But it’s basically a $10 surcharge to remove their logo.

I like the books and the company but I see this an unnecessary and unfair expense.

I don’t see any point in wasting ink, since I have soft proofed and adjusted my photos to appear correctly with their printer and paper.

Help....Cannot turn off Page numbers!
BookSmart

I have seen a similar bug with header title text.
What I ended up doing is move from page to page and select “this page only”.
http://forums.blurb.com/forums/1/topics/2080
Next time I think I will just delete each one manually.

text feature broken
BookSmart

As we know, black text shows up, on the printed page, even if you choose a black page background.
So I want to remove all the header titles on all the pages.
Header>title>none>apply to all pages simply does not work.
“Apply to this page only” seems to work but then later some of the pages get reset and the title is back.
Even if it works it has to be done on each page.
You can quickly check for an unwanted header title by clicking the page background color icon and hovering over white.

Issue 2;
Page numbers don’t always update after moving pages around.
The numbers on the page thumbs sometimes do not correspond to the numbers in the edit window.
I have also seen a page number change without moving the order pages and I have to manually restore the correct number.

I think he is referring to the preview that you see on the Edit Book Detail page.
Right now I am seeing the same thing but is says “preview is being generated”.
