General Interest
Our book was 99% finished and fine until we downloaded the new BookSmart software and now images do not place properly, resulting in the images appearing too big and being cropped in odd ways. We are under a time deadline and are hoping somebody would have the installer for a previous version of BookSmart. We have tried different computers and it happens on all of them, even on a new reinstall. We have put in a customer service report but no response so far. We are under a time constraint and have to resolve this ASAP The blurb about BookSmart says upgrading to the new software will not harm a book already in progess. They go out of their way to explicitly state that. Five minutes poking around the forums makes it clear the most recent BookSmart upgrade DOES harm existing books. We have now spent more than 48 hours of time trying to resolve this issue, time we will not be compensated for and cannot get back. Blurb low price has now vanished as far as I can see. Beta means Bugs. Blurb should provide a nonBeta version of the software for customers who do not want to risk their time, effort and creative output. Why remove the previous working software if the current one is a betaÉ If we cannot resolve this issue, we will not use Blurb again. We cannot afford to put in the work and not be able to produce the book. Perhaps if more people stood up to them and said they are not using Blurb because of their betaware and refusal to provide customer service, the drop in revenue would make them act where commonsense has not.
