font size recommended
Tips and Tricks
I did mine in 8 pt font, which I could read, but my mom and grandpa were definitely struggling. It also depends on the font and the colors you’re using.

Help, Multiple versions of same book?
Tips and Tricks
Yeah, finish the first one then upload it. Once it’s on the site, you can go back to it and finish it with your parents’ stuff and upload the new version. Both will then be on there as two separate books.

How to revise a book without doing "new" book?
Book Design and Imaging
I’ve been wondering the same thing. I came across your post and was disappointed not to find an answer. Sadly, it may be that we can’t fix it.

Photography Book NOW - competition question!
Book Design and Imaging
I don’t think you can. Although you would have permission as far as copyrights, it says that you can’t do collaborations and I don’t think that the book would be enough your work, no matter how much effort you personally put into it. I edited cited quotes out of mine just to be on the safe side. Because it costs to enter, maybe you should check before doing it, but if you aren’t worried about the entry fee then you really have nothing to lose.
Good luck!

From the darkroom to the Book
Book Design and Imaging
For the most part, this question isn’t specific to Blurb but to scanning in general. You may be able to find a photo lab that scans prints and would have a scanner that is high enough quality to capture everything.

Picture won't upload on cover...
Book Design and Imaging
Try looking at it in “preview” mode. If it shows up there, then you’re fine.http://forums.blurb.com/images/buttons/post_b_hover.png

How do I permantenly delete Header & Footer for each page?
Book Design and Imaging
I think that different formats for pages count as different as far as “apply to all,” so if you have a four photo lay-out on one page, the next page which has just two will revert to the original settings with a header and footer, etc. You’ll probably have to keep deleting them all, sorry!

what are opinions on book size and thickness?
Book Design and Imaging
If cost isn’t an issue, I say go big! I’ve gotten the smaller landscape versions because they are cheaper and they are a fine size, but giant photo books are always great.

book from old scrapbook

Scanning is your only shot, but (assuming the $10/page cost is for getting it done professionally) a scanner is a worthwhile investment. I think you can get one for pretty cheap, as it seems that these days many printers come with them built-in anyway. Once you’ve done that, you can scan away to your heart’s content for free.
