Do you have to upgrade?
BookSmart

I’ve still got version 1.9.5.  After reading about the problems people are having with the new version, I have no desire whatever to upgrade.  Is there any reason I MUST get the new version?  If I create a book in 1.9.5., will Blurb refuse to upload it or something?

I am happy with 1.9.5.   It works.  You know the saying about "if it ain’t broke."

Wrong books arrived...
Ordering and Shipping

Hmmm, I just received "20 Years of Fashion and Philanthropy" instead of my copy of "At Rest."  How often does this happen??

Thank you, Jack, I think that makes sense.

And to concur with what Lee said, I for one had no idea Blurb.com had forums until I ran across an offhand mention of them by chance on the Flickr group.  Even then, I had to Google to find them.  Why isn’t there a link?

I think I have 1.9.5 too.  Isn’t that the latest update?  I will have to check when I get home.  Do you mean the parchment works for you all the time with 1.9.5 but not with all previous versions, or does it not work all the time with 1.9.5?

And where in 1.9.5 did you find the parchment?

Augh!

Thank you, at least that’s an actual answer even if it’s bad news.  Will the parchment be coming back in future updates?

First book. My review.

Agreed.  Rude at best, spamming at worst.

backround colors changed
BookSmart

You should be able to go to Backgrounds, then click the box at the top that says Apply To All Pages (or something very like that), then select black.

Jack, what version of Booksmart do you have, and where are you finding the parchment in there??  I don’t need it on the cover, only on the interior pages.

Don’t bother emailing support; I did that, and I got back the world’s most unhelpful answer: "If you can’t find a background, it MAY BE that it’s not available any more."  Well, no kidding.  But it MAY BE that it IS available and I’m just not looking in the right place!  Thank goodness for these forums, I guess!

Argh!  Is that true?  I’ve seen it used in books in the Just Published area of the Bookstore.

 :(  Say it ain’t so!

i dont want a cover title
Book Design and Imaging

If you don’t type anything in, the cover will print with just the photo.  It won’t actually say "Add book title."   That only shows up in Edit mode.  Have you looked at it in Preview mode?

I meant to note—I searched for "parchment" in the forums but didn’t find anything…

In previewing others’ books in the Bookstore, I have seen some that used a page background that looks like parchment—sort of creamy with slightly darker page edges.  Is this one of the BookSmart backgrounds or is it a Photoshop custom?  If it’s native, I haven’t been able to find it in BookSmart.  Can someone help me out?

Forum activity declining !!!!
Web Features

I for one did not know Blurb had forums until I saw an off-hand mention of them in the Blurb group on Flickr.  At that point I even had to Google for "blurb forums" to find my way to forums.blurb.com.  It’s not very intuitive!

The forums have been extremely helpful, btw.  I’ve learned a lot…

Saving a backup of a book
BookSmart

I have finished my first Blurb book and it’s being processed.  Since I’m done with it, I want to save some disk space by getting rid of files I no longer need.  From BookSmart, I exported my book into a .book file and right now I have it sitting on my desktop.  Does this file have ALL the info I need inside it?  I mean, that’s the WHOLE thing?  Because I’ve also got a folder in My Documents which BookSmart created, with a whole bunch of files in it that I can tell are BookSmart’s version of the pictures I used in the book (hope I’m saying this clearly, I know BookSmart saves its own version of my .jpgs and that’s what is in this folder in My Documents, plus apparently other files, too—pages, I guess?).

So my question is, can I safely delete this folder, now that I have exported a .book backup from BookSmart?

Thanks!
